Just like one place years ago that low-balled me on salary, and when I attempted to negotiate even a couple of thousand more, they said “It’s an honor and privilege to work at QRXN” and I mentally thought that I can’t pay bills, buy food, etc., with “honor and privilege”. (Later on, after reluctantly joining despite rumors of it being a not-great place to work, I had multiple people at networking events confirm my own experience with the place being an absolute sweatshop. I didn’t last long there. I have no problem with staying late when needed, but I was working 50+ hours a week, and I was the slacker.)
