As promoted here on the ‘Grok last week, this past Friday July 17th featured protests outside local offices of US congressional representatives here in the Granite State and elsewhere throughout the country.

Our friend Jack Kimball of the Granite State Patriots tells us about the Seacoast action:

Just got back from the protest at CSP & Jeanne Shaheen’s offices in Dover.  Here’s a quick report:  We had around 40 – 50 people in front af CSP’s office and another 20-25 in front of Shaheens.

WE also had around 12 SEIU/ACORN agitators and we smothered them.  They had their little chants and rants going such as "health care for all" etc.  But, we came up with a few of our own such as "no gov’t health care" and "Carol Shea Porter, you’re FIRED".  We also came up with "Bye, Bye, Carol" (similar to the Red Sox cheer).

According to the Capitol City event organizer Omer Ahern, about 35 people attended as participants in the Hodes/Concord TEA Party, with some folks going up to the Congressman’s office to hand-deliver letters expressing opposition to the nationalization of our health-care system.

Join with NH citizens and fellow Americans from across the Nation to oppose the government takeover of our healthcare system. 

There will be rallies at the offices of Rep. Carol Shea Porter, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, Rep. Paul Hodes and Sen Judd Gregg on Friday July 17th from 12pm-1pm to send the message that Government Run Healthcare is a losing proposition costing NH families more in taxes and reducing their freedom to seek the very best medical care. Details below…

It is hoped that this will be part of what will be a Nation-wide event featuring ordinary citizens telling their government to stay out of healthcare!

Because there is no "top-down" organization to this truly grass roots event, what happens is up to us, the people. The plan of action for this Friday July 17 as envisioned is to have a TEA Party at each local office beginning at Noon through 1:00 PM.    The focus at the Congressional offices of Hodes and Shea-Porter should be on Health Care Reform a/k/a Obamacare a/k/a socialized medicine.    At the Senate offices, in addition to the Health Care issue, thoughts on Cap and Trade energy tax should be made known.

The only other assignment is to simply make and bring a sign addressing the themes accordingly. ORGANIZED events thus far are as follows at NOON:

Oldest Independence Day parade in Nation bans Tea Partiers for (gasp!) distributing copies of the Declaration and Constitution!

The oldest continuous Independence Day parade in America, despite having a history of famous (and some infamous) speeches and activities occurring during the event, has decided that a group using one of the most endearing Revolutionary period’s actions as its symbol will not be welcome to participate next year.

First, some background. DailyAdvance.com writes of the Bristol, RI Fourth of July parade:

In July 1785, the citizens of this waterfront town assembled to heap praise on their newly minted nation and to thank God for helping them survive a fierce assault by the British during the Revolutionary War.

In July 1892, lawyer Orrin Bosworth preached that the townsfolk should be accepting of the immigrants arriving en masse: "America has no cause to fear the lover of freedom, be he American or foreign born."

And in July 1963, judge Arthur Carrellas roared to the citizenry about the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to ban Bible readings in public schools.

Prayer, speeches and other such "patriotic exercises" have marked the Fourth of July in Bristol every year since 1785 — allowing the town to lay claim to the nation’s oldest Independence Day celebration.

Over the years, the speeches — given by judges, senators, war veterans and others — have run the gamut from typical exhortations of patriotism to muscle-flexing against Communist countries to criticism of court decisions.

The patriotic exercises and annual parade that follows are institutions in Bristol, where pride in country is manifest in the red-white-and-blue center stripe that runs through the main artery of the town and in the American flags and banners that hang outside restored colonial homes.

Fast forward to the present… According to an email from one of the organizers of the Tea Party movement in Rhode Island, they have been banned from participating in the parade in future years because some members of the group (gasp!) were distributing copies of the Constitution!

As we informed you this week, the RI Tea Party float in the Bristol Fourth of July Parade was a HUGE success, with people in the crowd showing overwhelming support and enthusiasm for our cause. Although we expected a positive reception, the response of the parade watchers was beyond our wildest imaginations. We were proud to represent the freedom loving people of Rhode Island to celebrate our country’s Independence!

PUBLIC HEALTH CARE COMPETITION?

In medicine, the primary rule that is the Hippocratic Oath is “First Do No Harm”. The new healthcare public sector initiative that Congress is proposing violates openly this standard.

As the health care reform debate rages in Congress, the establishment of a new publicly funded medical insurance provider now seems to be on center stage. With their monopoly on power in Washington, the Democrats are fully intent on creating yet another new government agency to handle this function. This is hardly shocking; the Democrats have always represented growth in government.

But what is interesting and new is the argument being used that the creation of such entity will keep the private sector competitive and on its toes. This novel idea represents a first. Where, one is tempted to ask, has the public sector ever provided honest competition to the private sector?

The fact of the matter is that it is always the other way around. Governments around the world are trying to privatize state owned entities to make them more competitive and self sustaining. Proponents of privatization have always pointed out that state owned enterprises are usually slow, inefficient and consistently devoid of innovation. Not even the opponents of privatization have ever claimed that state owned enterprises are more efficient and competitive.

One is hard pressed to think of a single instance where a government enterprise has out performed the private sector. Certainly this was not the case with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Amtrak, TVA, the Export-Import Bank, etc.

Zelaya’s Removal: Necessary and Proper

Yesterday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met privately with former president of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya. Afterward, she announced that the crisis in that nation would now be mediated by Costa Rican President Oscar Arias, saying,

“We hope at the end of this mediation there will be a return of democratic constitutional order that is agreed to by all concerned.”

It’s time to take off the gloves: Mrs. Clinton is lying. “[D]emocratic constitutional order” has in fact already been returned to Honduras, no thanks to her boss, Barack Obama. And then only because Manuel Zelaya was impeached and removed from office by the Honduran Congress, and his attempt at rewriting the nation’s Constitution halted by the Supreme Court.

Zelaya’s removal was in fact the only legal outcome that could occur under law. And it was also necessary in order to maintain the constitutional administration of government in Honduras. What happened?

As ALG News has previously reported, Zelaya was attempting to convene a constitutional convention that would have enabled him to rewrite portions of the Constitution that defined term limits for the office of President.

Zelaya was repeatedly warned—by his own constitutional experts, the Public Prosecutor General, the Attorney General, the presiding judge of the Administrative Law Court, the Office of the State Attorney, the Administrative Law Tribunal, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, the National Congress, and the National Commissioner for Human Rights—that his proposed referendum was unconstitutional, but he knowingly proceeded anyway with his unlawful plans.

In Honduras, the President is only allotted one term of office. And, it is unconstitutional for any public servant to even propose extending that term. While that may appear harsh, in Honduras the people have little use for would-be kings, or populist demagogues.
