The only think I dislike more than having a progressive Democrat try to sell me their stupid narrative is when a progressive Republican tries it.  And that is exactly what the Gang of 5 was doing when they sent their pro-immigration bill op-ed to the Laconia Daily Sun.  (Turning us from “not a gun blog” into “not an immigration blog” overnight.)

While I have already fisked their letter, and Skip and Don have also weighed in, I wanted to take a second pass at offering up some reference material that demonstrates–or at least suggests–that skipping border enforcement, even just kicking it down the road, before implementing the legalization component, would be a disaster for the establishment Republicans, who clearly believe that supporting this will win them enough love and affection to secure their votes.

Statism – the idea that “The State” (e.g., the Government as opposed to Civil Society and individuals) should play more and more of a role in determining the choices that individuals can make.  Yes, Zandra, this is why you were sent to New Hampshire and why you are paid by out of state folks – your self-proclaimed mantra of “social justice” is just a phrase for the rubes to think they are getting from others for nothing (and feeling good about reclassifying “stealing” as “it’s owed me” via the point of a pen); you know full well that you are working towards the end point of the Progressive movement: the Administrative State – stocked with all those non-partisan experts who are only concerned in being our benevolent rulers.

Sorta like what we’ve seeing lately in the IRS – lots of those non-partisan types there, treating every one equally with regard sex, color, national origin, economic class, sexual orientation, religion, and political outlook.

Alpine ski areas recorded a total of 2,276,370 alpine skier and snowboarder visits, a 20.9 percent increase from the prior winter. and a 4.7 percent increase over the 10-year average.

Cross-country areas also had a very successful winter, hosting 151,276 visits, a 57.2 percent increase from the prior winter. and a 14.8 percent increase over the 10-year average.

U.S. will supply arms to Syrian rebels. CBS reports:

The Obama administration has concluded that Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government used chemical weapons against the rebels seeking to overthrow him and, in a major policy shift, President Obama has decided to supply military support to the rebels, the White House announced Thursday.

Okay, wait. Aren’t these the same rebels that are loyal to Al-Qaeda? Does that really seem like a wise move? From my reading of the news and observing the on-goings over the past few years, I think the USS Rebel Assistance might have sailed a while ago. You know, before the rebels were inundated with Al-Qaeda. Hey, what do I know. I only read the same news sources as this president to find out what’s going on, but I do readily admit that maybe there were some otherwise private emails sitting on someone’s laptop he was able to read that contained pertinent information, information of which I’m not privy.

The cynic in me wonders if this is a convenient distraction or another looming serving of hapless incompetence.

“I only bring it up because it frames the context of the authors.  Are they delusional or deceptive?“

I’d go with “deliberately stupid” because like the Gang of Eight Republicans, they believe that simply having an “R” next to your nameplate while working in DC automatically makes you a member of the Smart People Club.  Problem is, they are being just as partisan for being a Repub as the Dems are as partisan on theirs.  The main problem is like many of the folks that are supposed to read the bill, they haven’t either.

“We know Americans want improved border security, and this bill includes that.”

But first a sidenote for Kelly Ayotte (as I have been rather cross since hearing that she was going to vote for cloture instead of killing this Democrat-Growing-Monster misnamed “a modern immigration bill” (as it is neither modern or about immigration – it is simply, as with each of the previous 50 years efforts, giving illegals, that don’t deserve it, legality to be here in the States):

Sidenote: “We spank’em when they do wrong and we thank’em when they do right.  Today, on the Grassley Amendment that simply stated that NO legalization of illegal aliens could proceed until the borders had been certified secured for six months, you voted to secure the borders.  First.  Before anything else.  Not just a “plan” that didn’t have to be followed or implemented that, you know, is actually in the bill – just a plan that had to be written simply to go collect dust.  Just like poll after poll after poll of Americans have tried to tell the ruling class of the Smart People Club, Americans want the border secured FIRST.

Thank you.  You voted what is most important to the American (and New Hampshirite) people when it comes to immigration. And actually, this was the whole purpose of this post.  Thank you.

The “drip, drip, drip” begins….

“Be Prepared” – Boy Scouts are known for that.  What’s a scenario that could happen and be ready if it shows up.  As I have written before (here, here, here, and here) with their half scrambled decision on letting gay scouts in and gay Scoutmasters out, they showed that even after giving themselves extra time to make that decision, they still “weren’t Prepared”.  As I pointed out, making a halfway decision satisfies no one – not the militant gays that will not stop until they have full acceptance AND affirmation and not the conservative churches that see homosexuality as a sin (not the orientation but the active practice – just like unmarried / adulterous sex between heterosexuals).

And of course, there are the “third way participants;, those are watching the politics of it all and making the decision based of having the least amount of mud on their faces at the end.  Here’s one:

As I read the Commentary titled, “Why Republicans should support immigration reform”, by five former New Hampshire Republican Party Chairman (see The Citizen of Laconia on June 11 and the Union Leader on June 6, 2013), I couldn’t help feeling that I was seeing why Republicans have lost so many elections lately.  No matter what these men have done before, on the illegal immigration issue, they are out of touch with grassroots Republicans, Democrats and Independents.

An overwhelmingly majority of Americans have repeatedly told politicians, “no amnesty” and “no comprehensive immigration reform”, just fulfill past promises, build the border fence and enforce current immigration laws.  The American people don’t trust our politicians who created today’s illegal alien problem by, for nearly 30 years, breaking their promises to enforce our immigration laws.

The 1000 plus page Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill is crammed with bribes and payoffs.  Despite months of promises that there would be enforcement before any benefits, we just found out that is not true, legalization happens immediately to be followed by more promises of enforcement.  Only someone wanting to be deceived would believe new enforcement promises.

In this morning’s Portsmouth Herald, Representative David Borden, Chair of the House Committee on Science & Technology – the committee of oversight for the Public Utilities Commission – writes of a ‘disturbing’ report regarding the health of NH’s only non-nuclear utility with electricity generating capacity.  He writes that ‘PSNH has lost all of its commercial and industrial clients to other electric suppliers. This is possible under the state’s partial deregulation program.”

What he fails to write is that PSNH has lost ‘all’ of its commercial and industrial clients’ because the burden of regulatory compliance under which PSNH is forced operate has made its fuel and operating costs so shocking high that they have made the cost of producing electricity shocking high – and seriously unattractive – as well.

Talking about Maple Syrup and Maple Syrup production has become an annual affair, only because the ideologically motivated New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D- EMILY’s List), used the sticky stuff as part of a charade to pull at voters ignorant heart-strings.   Had she never brought it up I’d have little or no reason to mention it all.  But the fact that she was wrong, demands that we add yet more content for Goggle to unearth whenever folks enter the search terms “Shaheen, Maple Syrup.”

To preface, five years ago, Shaheen cried wolf that Global Warming™ was set to doom New Hampshire’s Maple Syrup production, cost jobs, ruin tourism,  blah blah..BS, BS…hasn’t happened.  Not happening.

And the USDA has just announced that this year Maple Syrup producers set a record, producing 70% over last year.

To put that in it’s proper context you have to know a few things.  First, in 2011 production hit a 76 year high not seen since 1920’s (apx 120,000 gallons just in NH).  Last years production was down 36% from the record year (76,000 in NH), and this year production in NH hit 124,000 gallons, up 63% from last year, and several percent higher than the record year that proceeded it.  Not exactly what you’d call an industry suffering from the so-called effects of Global Warming.
