Hassan vetoes budget; will sign 6-month spending plan

Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan officially vetoed the $11.3 billion state budget Thursday morning, setting the stage for several more months of partisan debate over the state’s next two-year spending plan.

…Hassan will soon sign a six-month temporary funding resolution that will keep government running at existing spending levels while lawmakers hammer out a new budget compromise. The current $10.7 billion state budget is set to expire June 30.

You get that?  Maggie Hassan will now only be allowed to spend at this year’s budget.  NO INCREASE.  Not a single dime more.  Not one thin penny.  And this Democrat did this to Government?  Heavens above!  She’s going to spend at the same rate.  And she did it to herself – willingly signing that fiscally limiting veto.  Yet, the Republican Party is supposed to be the Party of smaller government.  Well, even with a veto to spend the same (until she gets all that she wants), I still see a $600 million rise from this session to the next in the Republican budget – that is NOT smaller government.

But Skip, it is LESS than what Hassan wanted – can’t you give them a break?

While most of the other GOP 2016 contenders have urged resistance to the Supreme Court’s Friday ruling on same-sex marriage, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said Americans “must abide by the law.”

In a statement on his website, Rubio said he believes in traditional marriage as central to a strong family life, but then added:

While I disagree with this decision, we live in a republic and must abide by the law. As we look ahead, it must be a priority of the next president to nominate judges and justices committed to applying the Constitution as written and originally understood.

Rubio is missing big time on the sentiment that is starting to grow on the Right – while the Left (abiding by the Rule of Alinsky) has adopted “the end justifies By Any Means Necessary”, and we see the signs and actions of this all over by Democrats not abiding by The Law, they are starting to ask themselves “Why should I – to my own detriment? Why should I not be able to defend my values, my traditions, against those that are actively moving to take them away”?

The Federalist has what it describes as Justice John Roberts 11 most devastating quotes from his dissent on the recent SCOTUS Gay Marriage decision.

They are all excellent observations.  They do make the majority argument look silly. But you have to wonder where this Justice Roberts was when they were handing out the decisions in King v. Burwell.

I say that because neither decision, regardless of what issue they decided, is based on rule of law, or any Constitution I am familiar with, yet this dissent from Roberts speaks to both the rule of law, constitutions–and the separation of powers (to add insult to injury).  So where was this man when confronted with the very plain language “passed” in ObamaCare by the law-making branch and signed in to law by the law enforcing branch?

In today’s Concord Fishwrap (no offense to fish), you’ll see another editorial about guns.  Yet another vapid.repetitive.attempt to imply that the backwater, 18th century Founding Fathers had no idea, when they wrote the muskets-only Second Amendment, that semi-automatic firearms would ever be invented.

Had the editorial’s authors only been there to tell them, the Founders would have surely backed away from this senseless, antiquated section of 27 words.  Right?

“I am truly disappointed in Governor Hassan’s decision to veto HB332 today. The intention of this common sense legislation was to give parents ample notification of certain subject material, specifically material relating to human sexuality, prior to its teaching in our schools. Parents should be allowed the opportunity to have important discussions on sensitive topics with their children prior them learning about it in the classroom. “There have been very public local incidents where New Hampshire parents would have preferred to have handled particular subject matters in a different manner than an educator did. In these instances, parents found out after the lesson has already been taught, which made for a very difficult and confusing situation for the children involved.
