On Thursday Senate Bill 11, AN ACT prohibiting collective bargaining agreements that require employees to join or contribute to a labor union, is scheduled to be voted on by the entire New Hampshire Senate. It was voted Ought To Pass out of committee by a party line vote of 3-2. As the Right to Work (RTW) debate heats up in New Hampshire, unions are pushing statements about RTW states that are either untrue or don’t give the complete picture. One of those statements is that Forced Union states (like New Hampshire) spend more money on education than RTW states. That’s all they claim without adding anymore information. Do you remember Clockhmed? Ahmed “Clock-Boy” Mohamed brought a ‘device’ to school that had the see-something-say-something crowd thinking bomb. He was arrested and suspended, and became the talk of the nation. Was it a misunderstanding or a ploy to tease an anti-Muslim narrative?

Whatever the plan was Ahmed’s father Mohamed Mohamed launched a series of defamation lawsuits against local officials and the media and that’s not going the way he’d hoped.

Last Tuesday, Senate Bill 11 (SB 11), AN ACT prohibiting collective bargaining agreements that require employees to join or contribute to a labor union, was heard in the senate committee at the State House. This is a bill that will end the forced unionism in New Hampshire and finally allow workers to have a choice about unions in the state. The hall was filled with Massachusetts union members. They are always bused in for New Hampshire union events. For some reason there never seem to be enough New Hampshire union workers to protest. Either they aren’t interested or they aren’t paid by their unions to miss a day of work to be there.

New Hampshire Right to Life sponsored another successful March for Life in Concord on Saturday. The annual event brings hundreds of pro-life Granite Staters together to rally and march in defense of the right to life. Bold stuff, for Concord.

Opponents waited near the Equality Center down the street (the name “Feminist Health Center” has been retired from active duty). There were permits all around. Concord officials have adopted an every-other-year policy for use of the sidewalk in front of the Center during the march: last year, pro-lifers got to march in front of the building while abortion advocates stayed off that segment of sidewalk; this year, it was the other way around, with pro-lifers shifting off of Main Street for a block to stay within the terms of the permit issued by the city.

Participants in the March for Life are usually directed not to block the sidewalks while marching from the State House to St. John the Evangelist Church half a mile away (site of a post-march program). Permit holders of any persuasion are supposed to leave enough room to allow passage by people not involved in the demonstration du jour. Or so I thought.

Most of the headlines claiming that any recent year is the ‘Hottest on Record’ are fake news. Fake climate news that is. It’s all spin.

First, the ‘record’ they refer to is the satellite record. The satellite record is 46 years old, beginning around the same time experts promised us a new ice age, falling crop yields, global hunger, peak oil, and nuclear winter. So, the hottest year ever schtick is an ironic turn for a class of people obsessed with pointing out how wrong the Old Testament is about the actual age of the earth.

As he has had in the past, Obama put some of the blame on conservative talker Rush Limbaugh and some host at the Fox News Channel, which he said made it difficult for Republicans to go along with some of his policy proposals.

“Well what is true is the ability of Republican leaders to rile up their base, helped along by folks like Rush Limbaugh, some commentators on Fox News I think created an environment in which Republican voters would punish Republicans for cooperating with me — that hothouse of back-and-forth argument and really sharp partisanship I think has been harmful to the country.”

In other words, our “I have a pen and a phone” President, who famously said that he was better at the jobs of everyone that worked for him, can’t admit that he LOST in the Arena of Ideas.  So put it another way – Rush and perhaps four other people at Fox blocked him and his policies?  Really, the most powerful man in the free world was stymied by people who just TALK for a living?  What does that say about Obama’s:

The more things don’t change…I said similar things during my time on my hamlet’s Budget Committee while evaluating our School District’s budget – it was always a case of that old joke “Go ahead, find the boots”*.  I’ve been off the BudComm for a few years now but nothing has changed – lower enrollements and higher costs.  As I said during a BudComm meeting last week, it seems that the School Board is not working for the taxpayers and protecting their tax monies but an active agent for the teachers union.

Anyways, that above quote is from the current BudComm Chair Norm Silber – and I agree with it totally (and glad he’s one of our NH House Reps):

We cannot overlook the fact that President-Elect Trump has broken new ground. We’ve entered uncharted territory. In the history of our Republic, the people have NEVER elected a non-politician to this higher officer of POTUS. Certainly not one as wealthy and successful as Donald Trump.

As always, I try to struggle to watch the Sunday talking head shows as there are sometimes some decent nuggets to be heard (remember, most of the people on here are Progressives and Liberals – I listen to see how they actually think).  In one of the middle segments, Chuck Todd is talking with US Diane Feinstein (D-Californistan / Mexifornia) and this popped up about the impending Inauguration of Donald Trump:

Feinstein: …and there is so much fear in this country. I come from the biggest State, get 10s of thousands of phone calls, and emails, from people that are fearful of what is going to happen.  It is the job of this new President to reassure people that he is just not the President of his base but he is the president of everyone and that means a coming together.

Xanax. Rosie O’Donnell is insane. She is completely off the rails. And what’s not to enjoy? Trump Derangement Syndrome is on the rise, increasing to epidemic levels. The media, the arts and croissants crowd, the Hollywood left and the limousine liberals are all off the rails. If this rate of meltdown holds steady, this is going to be a most entertaining, comedy-filled era of the Donald Trump Presidency.

We are seeing this nuttiness at all levels of society. We see it in our State Houses, our local governments, In our schools, and in public. I am poised just waiting for somebody to nail a live chicken to his or her own head to protest Donald Trump’s inauguration.

If anything we should be galled when we see Hollywood lining up to tell us how to vote…how to think…where to stand on an issue..or issues.

All of these Sunday talk shows have a panel discussion during their shows – and that’s pretty much why I watch.  This time, quite the reveal.  Beside the host of Meet The Press, Chuck Todd (who pretty much stayed out of this back and forth), the people involved in this discussion were:

• “The Atlantic” [a very Left leaning magazine] Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg
• Danielle Pletka, SVP for Foreign and Defense Policy Studies, American Enterprise Institution [a right leaning think tank]
• Helene Cooper, Pentagon Correspondent for the  NYT (a very Left leaning newspaper and a reporter to match)

Sidenote: I really hadn’t heard Pletka before – hopefully we’ll see her more often

The discussion swung to the topic of the President-elect (and soon to be President) Trump’s penchant to use Twitter as a communications tool.  It is clear that the MSMers (Todd, Goldberg, Cooper) are all aghast that a person in that office would speak out, speak out often, and (their real ax grinding) going around them. Cooper starts it off with a slight against Trump (emphasis mine):

Cooper: …The idea that the President of the United States is going to be having tantrums on Twitter whenever someone gets under his skin I think is frightening to a lot of people…

This is the paranoia of TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome). He’s not even Prez yet and he’s absolutely driving the Left to bed-wetting. It has to be the leftovers, in part, of KNOWING that Hillary should have been The One – and isn’t. But that bit about a “tantrum” – it will return in a moment.

The new Legislature is looking at election law again so now is as good a time as any to revisit something I’ve suggested before when it comes to figuring out who can and can’t or should or should not be voting in New Hampshire.

Here it is, plain and simple.

To qualify for In-State tuition status a student [or his/her parents if a dependent] must physically reside in New Hampshire for no less than twelve continuous months prior to the term for which In-state status is desired, must reside in New Hampshire for some purpose other than attending the University, and meet all the other requirements of the tuition rules.
