CHASER: Liberals upset that VP Mike Pense refuses to

Vice President Mike Pence has been catching some flack for the revelation that, as detailed in a Washington Post profile, he allegedly refuses to dine alone with any woman who isn’t his wife Karen, nor will he attend any events with alcohol at them if she isn’t there. This struck many on the left as comically outdated and unnecessary, and led to quite a bit of mockery of the vice president.

It is not “allegedly” – that it is S.O.P for Mike Pence, current Veep of the US.  I didn’t write about it at the time, but I agree with him and the “whys” of his choice of behaviors.  More on that later.  The point I want to make is, at the time, Liberals and Feminists all over had their panties in a bunch and were screaming “HOW DARE that Mike Pence “protect” his marriage in acting in such a way?  See!  The Chauvinistic Patriarchy!”.

Yeah, you keep telling yourselves that.  Yet, do you see what I don’t see?

It has been 12 long years since a major hurricane (Category 3 or above) has hit the US mainland and Harvey is turning out to be catastrophic. Just watching the news last night was terrifying. Not only had it strengthened wind-wise, the ensuing wobbling will keep in the southern part of Texas for a few days lambasting the residents there. I thought that 41″ of rain that was forecasted a couple of days ago (YIKES – three and a half FEET of rain in 4 days????) – last night I heard up to 50″!

Already, I’ve heard reports that Ground Zero, Rockport, has all but been wiped out by 135mph winds.

UN Ambassador Nikki Haley has been working on Iran Nuke-Deal oversight, with a focus on compliance. The US doesn’t think Iran is following the deal to the letter. Iran thinks the US is trying to undermine the IAEA Inspectors by meeting with them and wants the Inspectors to keep mum. No one entirely trusts anyone, and there’s nothing new about that.

Maybe everyone is right, or maybe they are wrong but a nuclear Iran would be one of the dumbest things to happen in my lifetime, and I grew up practicing nuclear attack/fallout drills in elementary school.

As to the matter of compliance, ‘The Deal™” already includes everything we need to drop the hammer and return to full sanctions against the Islamic Republic for any reason.

The deliberate division of human beings into oppressed groups and sub groups of ‘victims’ has had a predictable outcome. Social Justice long-division does not end in tolerance.

Remember when the Democrats unanimously voted to repeal the First Amendment back in 2014? Remember when Hillary wanted to curtail free speech when it pertains to politicians? And how about all those times over the past several years when Progressives and leftists called for silencing “hate speech” where hate speech is anything they don’t like? Remember all of those? You should at least remember the one because the latest example was just last week in Boston.

I’m pretty much a free speech absolutist, so it’s always lost on me why people would call for limiting speech when someday someone would try to limit their speech and mine. It seems to me so naive and short sighted in that you never know who would be the one in control silencing others. More amazing is that a lot of these calls coming from Progressives and leftists are getting louder now. With Trump sitting in the White House and Sessions as Attorney General!

Now, I simultaneously held that view AND completely understood the evils the Administrative State F.A. Hayek warned about in Constitution of Liberty. So when I heard Kevin D. Williamson marry the two together, I had a forehead smacking ”Oh yeah, Duh!” moment. The war currently being waged against Confederate monuments seemingly came from nowhere, but it’s quickly becoming a fierce and brutal conflict. That was made clear when those self-appointed champions of justice triumphantly toppled the statue of a Confederate soldier in Durham and then, in an orgy of hate, took turns kicking and spitting on the vanquished hunk of metal.

Rational people are finding it hard to understand this collective statuary revulsion. It’s as if so many Rip Van Winkles simultaneously awoke from a 150-year slumber, filled with self-righteous rage, and ready to do battle against a scourge that had already ended around the time they dozed off.

What motivates these people?

The notion of the “art of association” can be traced back to Tocqueville, who noted America’s robust civil society that consists of an array of social associations and networks.  These associations and networks were not the result of government design or legislation, but instead evolved through the ingenuity of self-reliant citizens acting entrepreneurially.  Associations stand between the government and the market.  They allow people to come together and solve common problems without relying on government.  In doing so, they serve as a check on government power because private individuals do not become overly reliant on government to solve the problems they face.  The emergence of a robust civil society is only possible when people’s right to free association is established and protected.  Where this right exists, people can invest in establishing social associations and networks, which can potentially play a crucial role in the wake of crises.
