Where ‘Indigenous Peoples’ Day Leads and Other Progressive Plots

columbus-820x539I’d like to wish the folks out in the Durham area a Happy ‘Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Durham, New Hampshire, is the first municipality in the Granite State to adopt the second Monday in October as ‘Indigenous Peoples’ Day.’

(c/o WMUR)“After much consideration and reflection regarding the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus, the town council has come to support this resolution to designate the second Monday in October as ‘Indigenous Peoples’ Day,’” said Durham Town Administrator Todd Selig. “Not only is it appropriate to our local history, but also to recognize and value indigenous people everywhere. The designation will encourage residents to learn more about the legacy of Christopher Columbus and the ‘Doctrine of Discovery,’ while also recognizing the devastating effects of colonialism on indigenous peoples.”

Durham’s made it an amalgam day, with the European oppressor and the indigenous oppressed sharing billing, but how long do we honestly think that “relationship” is going to last because this feels a lot like progressive incrementalism to me.

Yeah, and Zandra Rice-Hawkins was a sterling example of why we don’t “join their conversation” on guns

President Obama said he wanted to do what he could to save even one child during the gun control debate. He has a change of heart when it comes to abortion.
President Obama said he wanted to do what he could to save even one child during the gun control debate. He has a change of heart when it comes to abortion.

I’m going to watch it again, but it was class Rice-Crispies operandi – dripping with condescension and her favorite tactic of hijacking the conversation while someone else is talking (in this case, Susan Olsen representing the Women’s Defense League).  I have to give Susan kudos for the attempt, but it was clear that Zandra Rice-Hawkins was as haughty as ever (as she treats me every time we meet up).  We’ve blogged about this outlook of Progressives before – that we believe they are misguided, but they believe we are EVIL.  That came out quite clear yesterday (and she is a pro-abortion extremist as well, so the image above fits).

Thus this post from The Federalist caught my eye and well sums up why there is no common ground.

The Heart Of Gun Confiscation Is Money and Evil

guns, pistols, rifle, revolvers, and ammunitionWhen a gun control advocate starts with their standard heart-wrenching plea for gun owners to cooperate in helping them make everyone safe, all I hear is gun confiscation. This gun control mantra isn’t about personal safety – it is about disarmament. Any plea by gun grabbers that this isn’t the case is flat out nonsense.

Most vocal gun grabbers have no idea what they are talking about regarding weapons; it’s just a fad opinion they picked up like a teenager going vegan to save the planet. The planning for, funding of, and talking points about gun confiscation comes from select left wing sources – professional anti-Second Amendment planners. Most citizen anti-gun activists pick up their agenda like they stepped in chewing gum. If it weren’t guns, it would be offensive statues, or foul language, or history that doesn’t meet their standard. It never stops.

So, did the Founding Fathers imagine automatic weapons?

EPA Chief Scott Pruitt Pulls the Plug on the Clean Power Plan

Back in March, President Trump signed an Executive Order asking the EPA to review the (the awful terrible) Clean Power Plan. EPA has, and now they are taking a hatchet to it. “I’m here to make an announcement that’s very, very important for you. Tomorrow, in Washington, D.C., I’ll be signing a proposed rule to … Read more

Pine Tree Ramblings (Vol 3) – Rebellious Acts

Pine Tree

Lots of talk about rebellion and “resistance” these days.

The NFL thugs on their knees, the Antifa children-of-the-corn and the countless Sherry Frost nutcakes who see “oppression” in every blade of grass.  It is nothing more than Pecksniffian silliness.  I have no doubt this will all end with a whimper, leaving no lasting mark on our country or society.

But we do have examples in our national past of truly courageous defiance, where the players and their families faced very real consequences for their risky acts that helped forge the creation of the United States.  The anniversary of one of these events is coming up this month, so let’s take a look.

A Quiet Sunday then On the Air Monday

I’ll be away from the Internet most of the day today, so there won’t be much if any new content from me today. But we’re hoping for some news and opinion from the other Groksters if they’ve got the bandwidth. Tomorrow, I will be back on Girard at Large after a week off. The new … Read more

Americans need to Cherish Life, Not Surrender their Rights

Some wounded still hover between life and death.  The dead are not yet buried.  Americans mourn the dead and injured of the Las Vegas shootings.  We wonder how such an event could happen.

And leftists do what they always do; use a crisis to try to take away the rights of the more than 318 million Americans who didn’t harm anyone.

Make no mistake; leftists want to take away the American peoples’ Second Amendment rights.  Ignore their denials; occasionally leftists, like Senator Diane Feinstein, admit their goal.  They don’t want you to have guns for hunting, for target shooting, for other legal uses, and not even for self-defense.

According to leftists only police and rich leftists’ (whose lives are much more valuable than ours) personal security should have guns.

After each tragedy, e.g., Sandy Hook, Orlando, and Las Vegas, leftists immediately demand restricting the rights of law abiding American people with laws that wouldn’t have avoided any of the tragedies.

Double Standards; one for Christians and one for Gays?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

We have seen a number of militant gay couples go to Christian small businesses like flower shops, wedding photographers, wedding chapel owners, and t-shirt makers and demand to be served.  At almost every turn, anti-discrimination ordinances or that any business was a “public accommodation”, along with biased bureaucrats and judges,  either put these businesses out of business or have put them into years long court battles that may well bankrupt them even if they win on First Amendment grounds.

Now, what happens when the shoe is on the other foot?  Is a gay person allowed to “discriminate” against Christian customers?

A gay Seattle coffee shop owner kicked a group of Christians out of his coffee shop Sunday, after declaring he would [Rule #1 prevents me from pasting this in -Skip]. The owner heatedly tells the Christians to leave his shop immediately in a video posted to Facebook by Abolish Human Abortion, a Christian group seeking to end the practice of abortion.

I’m gay, you have to leave,” the owner tells the group. “This is offensive to me. I own the place. I have the right to be offended.” The group tried to explain that they hadn’t placed any in the shop, but the owner repeatedly told them to”shut up.”

So the Left wants to begin a “conversation” about guns, eh?

Molon Labe - AR-15

And on Obamacare. And on contraceptives. And on LGBT issues.  They must think we are stupid because the “conversation” has never really stopped – they NEVER keep yammering.  What they they mean by “conversating” is for us to SHUT UP and adopt their way of thinking as if we were soft cantalopes.  Not happening, as Kurt Schlichter writes.  In part (reformated, emphasis mine):

Nothing Makes Liberals Angrier Than Us Normals Insisting On Our Rights

I don’t agree with liberals often, because I’m not an idiot and because I love America, but when they once again say, “We must have a conversation about guns!” I still couldn’t agree more. And, since all we’ve heard is you leftists shrieking at us all week, I’ll start it off.

You don’t ever get to disarm us. Not ever.

That was the nicest part.  He get more amusing:

Now, we should have this conversation because in recent years we’ve seen a remarkable antipathy for the fact that normal Americans even have rights among those on the left. We should have this conversation to clear the air before leftists push too far and the air gets filled with smoke. But we really don’t need to have a conversation about our rights to keep and bear arms. They’re rights. There’s nothing to talk about.

Blogline of the Day – putting it this way, why would the Left complain?

Heh! Trump Administration Is About To Give ObamaCare The Planned Parenthood Treatment After all, abortion is all but a sacrament for the Left? Quick Thought – So Schumer talks with the dead?

Senator Charles Ellis Schumer, D-NY and Anti-gun Charlatan
Senator Charles Ellis Schumer, D-NY and Anti-gun Charlatan

Schumer referenced inaction on gun control in his exhortation, saying, “[Those people] who were killed and are now in heaven, they would say, ‘do something.’ They wouldn’t say, ‘Let’ wait.’”

1) Talking with dead people is a wee bit creepy, isn’t it?

2) Obama is famous for establishing red lines and then ignoring them. Schumer just walked over a societal redline, but just like with Harvey Weinstein’s sexual harassments of the “casting couch” kind, the Left won’t care because DEMOCRAT!

NFL now least liked sport, I Wonder Why?

nfl-kneeling-0924-large-169Recent polling shows the NFL, once American’s favorite sport, has plummeted out of favor.

Worse for football, which was already seeing lower TV ratings and empty stadium seats, the month of protests and complaints about them from President Trump drove core fans, men 34-54, away, the most significant indicator that NFL brass aren’t in touch with their base.

The Winston Poll from the Washington-based Winston Group found that the attitude of those fans went from an August rating of 73 percent favorable and 19 percent unfavorable to 42 percent favorable and 47 percent unfavorable, a remarkable turn against the sport.

And it gets worse.

Slide Fires and Slippery Slopes

“Legislation can neither be wise nor just which seeks the welfare of a single interest at the expense and to the injury of many and varied interests.”  -Andrew Johnson

Slide Fires and Slippery Slopes. And, the slippery slope is  at our door once again. About 96 hours ago, yet another maniac shot up a public venue, killing 59 people. The emotional caterwauling begun almost immediately. Not one single law in existence nor anything proposed would have stopped or thwarted this attack. It did not take two days for a piece of legislation to totally ban the use of slide fire stocks, binary triggers or other like technology to come to the floor.
