Recap: Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the US House, infamously said that Trump will have to prove his innocence in court – turning our judicial philosophy upside down by telling us he’s guilty BEFORE his trial:

And now NH Governor Chris Sununu, who harbors dreams of becoming POTUS (or at least a talking head position on MSNBC), has said basically the same thing on Bill Maher’s Real Time show on HBO (H/T: NHJ):
During an appearance on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu said he “assumes” former President Donald Trump is guilty in the case being brought by the Manhattan district attorney, but he will back the former president if he becomes the GOP presidential nominee.
Always trying to split the difference by trying to leave a bigger negative nuance than a positive. Yep, wishing Trump well.
Translation: “Can’t wait to see him in jail, but I’ll be magnanimous and say that I’ll vote for him.”
And while waiting to catch the weather on WMUR the news guys had the latest NH-based poll from St. Anselm on the 2024 Republican Prez race. I have to admit that Sununu DID beat his 5% polling result with 14%, but being third in your home State isn’t anything to brag about given all the name recognition you have here with people having seen (and lived) through your record:
- 42% – Donald Trump
- 29% – Ron DeSantis
- 14% – Chris Sununu (Emerson has him at 7% and UNH has him at 4%)
- 4% – Nikki Haley
- 3% – Vivek Ramaswamy
- 2% – Liz Cheney
- 1% – Mike Pence
So what does Sununu have to do to win his own State?
Two other surprises – that newcomer Vivek Ramaswamy is at 3% only after being in the race just a few months (a decent ROI), and former Veep Mike Pence is a laggard at 1%.
It’s still a long time before the race really starts to heat up, but one would think that Sununu would be closer to second rather than 50% behind DeSantis – at leas in the state he allegedly governs.
