About That Democrat Who Implied It Is Cheaper to Kill Disabled Kids in the Womb…

Have you heard the name, Michael Hugo? The Framingham, Massachusetts Democrat Committee Chair suggested that misdiagnosed disabilities in the womb translate to huge added costs to public education.

“if an unqualified sonographer misdiagnoses a heart defect, an organ defect, spina bifida or an encephalopathic defect, that becomes a very local issue because our school budget will have to absorb the cost of a child in special education, supplying lots and lots of special services to children, who were born with the defect.”

There’s been some outrage about the implications. It sounds like his belief is that such a diagnosis should result in aborting the unborn child to save taxpayers money. That is a safe assumption for someone whose ideological ancestors were eugenicists and depopulation fanatics. Given recent narratives from progressives about the overcrowded planet, the 21st-century Democrat apple does not fall far from that tree.

His party has history, past, and present to suggest that is precisely what he meant.

For the record, the comment was made weeks ago, and they had no plans for him to step down. Local Dems didn’t want him out, but then the story went national, and yesterday, Hugo stepped aside as committee chair.

“Recognizing my unfortunate misstatement at a recent City Council meeting, and upon discussing the issue with my wife, family, Senate President Karen Spilka, and various members of the Framingham Democratic Committee, I have decided that my resignation is necessary to eliminate any distraction from the important work of the local Democratic Committee, as well as the State Party,” Hugo said in a prepared statement.

He stepped down, but I don’t think he ended the distraction. Michael Hugo’s quoted remarks include what ought to be at least two deal breakers for Dems and should have them calling for his political head.

First, from his February remarks, any “school budget [that] will have to absorb the cost of a child,’ implies that it is a child, just one that has not yet been born. This is anathema to the political left.

Second, what if ‘an unqualified sonographer misdiagnoses a heart defect, an organ defect, spina bifida, or an encephalopathic defect’? It sounds like he just institutionalized the probability of a medical misdiagnosis that ends the life of “a child.”

That’s hardly a game changer for Dems, they support killing healthy unborn children as often as you please, but by stepping down, Hugo has added value to the outrage over his original “unfortunate” remarks.

Unborn children have value. It is a child.

I think Framingham Dems had better get rid of this guy before he becomes more of a liability (or distraction) to the party of death.
