The Secrecy of the Nashua Mohawk Tannery EPA Superfund Project

Mohawk Tannery Fimbel Door Site Nashua

The January 10, 2023 Special Presentation to the Board of Alderman by City leaders and developers on the development of this EPA Superfund property into 537 housing units left many unanswered questions. There was no public input permitted.

As usual, Dir. Cummings chose his words carefully and was unclear about the costs to taxpayers. About two weeks later, a citizen sent a very well-researched letter to the Board of Alderman and Mr. Cummings with questions on the project. No one responded or offered answers.

Citizen Email re Mohawk

I, too, have a number of questions, so I sent an email on January 22, 2023, requesting a meeting with anyone willing to discuss the project. Friday, I received a response from Dir. Cummings;

I would recommend you attend public meetings to attain public information and participate within the forum. Alternatively, you could contact your elected officials and share your ideas and concerns with them directly.”

This is taunting. Mr. Cummings knows that the City will not answer questions in public meetings. He also knows that the Tannery Project has not been on the agenda since January 10th. Citizens don’t participate in Board meetings and there are no “forums.” His response gives no indication of when “forums” will be held.

The Board permits 3 minutes to speak, even if you are the only one there and you’re rudely interrupted with “one minute, thirty seconds, and times up (because the City can see the clock but the citizens cannot)” I have contacted the Board of Alderman and Alderman at Large. They are non-responsive.

The most unprotected speech in Nashua is political speech, and constitutionally, it is supposed to be the most protected. Say something the Mayor, legal office or Board disagrees with, and they will collectively gaslight you. I have not attended a Board meeting since October 13, 2022, when Alderman Moran called me out as a Child predator, using his professional training as a licensed social worker and child protective worker. I literally threw up for weeks over this and didn’t go anywhere. I am a lightning rod for abuse, and I can’t tolerate it anymore. The City knows this.

Through my attorney, I filed a defamation lawsuit in Superior Court against Mr. Moran and his therapy company, “Wanderlust”. His attorney, Charles Bauer is claiming this was just his opinion and normal everyday speech that Mr. Moran has a right to use against citizens coming forward to express their opinions on the operation of their government. So, now the Board and Mayor are empowered to just call everyone any names they wish. It’s open season on citizens and constitutional rights mean nothing.

The Mayor published one of his personal newsletters last week, acting as if the Mohawk Tannery is a done deal. The Aldermen are all on board.

Do you want the city spending an undisclosed amount of your tax dollars undertaking the cleanup of the Toxic chemical EPA Superfund property under the cover of darkness?

Don’t go to meetings, avoid the gaslighting and write to your Alderman about your position on a project of this nature. Send me their responses. They won’t respond to me.
