Quick Thought: A Most Peculiar “Headline” From the Concord Monitor

NH FITN Plaque

The peculiar Concord Monitor Headline is this: “New Hampshire state law now at odds with Democrat proposed primary schedule.” My first thought was, “NH must take a knee to the Democrat National Committee?”

Sorry, Monitor Headline Writer, the premise is wrong unless you are, like most newsroom denizens, a registered Democrat and donor.

The Law is the Law – NH goes first.  And that is the primary issue – the DNC does NOT get to tell a State itself when it will have its elections. Yes, the DNC (and RNC) can, if they decide, assess penalties to both a State Committee and to candidates that violate their private Corporation rules and processes. But this next part was hilarious – my second quick thought! As WUMR reported:

The committee set up a near-impossible task for New Hampshire Democrats, asking them to get signed letters from Republican Gov. Chris Sununu and legislative Republicans committing to repeal the primary law.

Hahahahahaha!  Or WHAT?  Or was this just a poke in the eye? First, WHY would Republicans bow a knee to the Democrats (not to mention that Sununu has done just that already) concerning the primary?

A probe to see just how much power they have over NH GOP elected officials – see how much “compromise” they can extract?  Or just make some PR points either in general or with their base.

Who knows, and who cares? But I will say that Joanne Dowdell sounded a bit absurd telling the DNC Rules Committee “NH does have a statute. We do have a Law. And we will not be breaking our law”.

Sounds like the DNC should be hanging their own NH members out to dry first instead of going after Sununu and the Republican caucuses. Or do they think far less of the former than they do of the latter?”
