The big news in bad news today comes from everywhere but originates at Boston University. Some doctors at BU, with nothing better to do, engineered a COVID variant with an 80% kill rate in mice. As soon as the animal rights folks get done being pissed about the dead mice, they’ll probably cheer!

The Left and its many axe-grinders are high on depopulation, which is – as far as I can tell – the only reason to take a few buckets of money and spend it on re-engineering an engineered flu virus that would succeed where the original failed. BU claims their strain would wipe out 80% of the lab rats.
If you’d like a headline on that bit of “progress,” here are a few that found their way to my inbox yesterday.
- Why are mad scientists creating an Omicron variant with 80% mortality?
- Boston University Doctors Create New COVID Variant that Has 80% Kill Rate — Funded by Dr. Fauci and NIH.
- Experts slam Boston lab where scientists have created a new deadly Covid strain with an 80% kill rate.
Why?
Well, there’s a midterm election in a few weeks that the Left would like the mad scientists to stop. That aside, why would someone do something like this? Read the abstract from the research.
We generated chimeric recombinant SARS-CoV-2 encoding the S gene of Omicron in the backbone of an ancestral SARS-CoV-2 isolate and compared this virus with the naturally circulating Omicron variant. The Omicron S-bearing virus robustly escapes vaccine-induced humoral immunity, mainly due to mutations in the receptor-binding motif (RBM), yet unlike naturally occurring Omicron, efficiently replicates in cell lines and primary-like distal lung cells. In K18-hACE2 mice, while Omicron causes mild, non-fatal infection, the Omicron S-carrying virus inflicts severe disease with a mortality rate of 80%. This indicates that while the vaccine escape of Omicron is defined by mutations in S, major determinants of viral pathogenicity reside outside of S.
They appear to think the plan was to determine why Omicron was so easily spread, especially among the vaccinated.
Maybe it would have been a better idea to research how the vaccine made people more susceptible to infection, transmission, hospitalization, and death. That might make sense. But no, you create a version of COVID19 (Is this COVID22?) that is more dangerous to everyone (if dying mice are any indication).
In the name of public health, yes? Just like the previous version.
And not for nothing but if it leaks like the “wet-market bat virus” in Wuhan, do you care how many people of color or Democrats it kills you, gay-hating, racist bigot?
And while we’re on the topic of narratives (not my best segue).
Is this a good time to clear up something else that is still muddying the waters? Conservative pundits must stop saying that the original boring old lab-engineered COVID (and its offspring) killed millions.
Not to pick on Jeff Kuehner, but he must have said it a half dozen times during my short commute to work today, and it’s not just him.
Stop. Doing. That.
COVID did not kill millions. The public health industrial complex/political response killed millions.
If the bulk of the population had amped up their vitamin D intake and had access to abundant and affordable Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, millions of lives would have been saved, not just from COVID.
Hospital treatment protocol killed many. The COVID vaccines killed many. Substance abuse and suicide related to COVID policy killed many.
The vaccine is killing many due to side effects, and its recipients are more susceptible to COVID than the unvaccinated. And maybe that’s the problem BU set out to solve.
You know, kill them all and let God sort them out. Of course, they probably don’t believe in God, so there’s that.
[Update]: BU now says it didn’t create a killer strain of COVID.
The research, which recently took place at a level 3 biosecurity lab at BU, was probing why the new omicron ba.1 variant was better at evading immunity to previous versions of the virus, specifically the strain that first appeared in Washington state in early 2020.
BU researchers created a chimeric virus by combining an omicron spike protein — the piece of the virus that binds to human cells — with the 2020 form of the virus.
So you created a virus, “We generated chimeric recombinant SARS-CoV-2 encoding the S gene of Omicron in the backbone of an ancestral SARS-CoV-2 isolate…” and that virus “inflicts severe disease with a mortality rate of 80%.”
You took Omicron, which causes little to no disease, and combined it with the original version of COIVD, killing 8 out of 10 mice. And that’s not creating some sort of awful killer variant of COVID?
Were you looking for a way to kill mice? No. You were trying to understand why Omicron is so contagious. So, you took a contagious strain Mice resisted and mated it with one that makes them very sick and boom. Nothing to see here.
Okay, sure. Let’s run with that. But saying it was approved by Boston Public Health and NIAID only makes matters worse.
