NHGOP Insider: We Need Republican Majorities That Can Override Sununu’s Vetoes

Governor Groomer, Chris Sununu, isn’t just aggravating the grassroots with his vetoes. Inside the State Republican Party apparatus, they’ve taken up our call for change.

Not a new governor, though a different Republican might prove useful. For all his flaws, Sununu is likely headed for another two-year term, and the party accepts it – wants it. What they no longer accept is the absence of a check on that governor.

Over the weekend, it became clear that the State Republican Party was not as pleased with Mr. Sununu’s actions as we’d like to believe. His stranglehold on them appears to have lessened, and they want reassurances.

Republican Super-Majorities in the Legislature. Both the New Hampshire House and Senate. Veto-proof majorities.

Without saying as much, that will require Granite Staters to send not just Democrats packing but more than a few of the Dems pocket Republicans. The RINOs who manage to vote the wrong way on crucial platform issues.

The party promises vast sums of money this cycle to support messaging and candidates and to blanket the markets with ads about failed Democrat policies and priorities.

Time will tell, but we’re fans of the super-majority. The last time we had one was when Democrat john Lynch was governor. They cut the state budget and advanced a raft of priorities, a few of which failed because of ‘republicans’ in the state Senate, so keep those offices in mind.

Sununu has demonstrated some influence with that body, and we’ll need ‘Republicans’ who put principles before whatever informs or drives Chris Sununu.
