Hampton, NH — Karoline Leavitt issued the following statement in response to President Joe Biden’s address to the nation last night:
“It has been just days since a mentally-deranged, evil young man murdered 19 precious children and 2 innocent teachers in Texas. Like every American, I have spent this time praying for the victims and their families, wondering how such evil can possibly exist in our world and in our country.
Last night, President Biden shamefully capitalized on our shared heartbreak to push an unconstitutional and useless ‘gun control’ agenda upon us. Biden advocated for a ban on semi-automatic weapons and “high-capacity” magazines as if any one criminal would abide by such a ban; advocated for more federal bureaucracy that would only make it more difficult for law-abiding Americans to purchase firearms; and proposed repealing liability for gun manufacturers, punishing private companies for bad people misusing their products.
President Biden and the Democrats’ agenda is an assault on the rights of good, law-abiding Americans to protect themselves, their families, and their communities; and it is the beginning of a slippery slope that would eventually lead to government tyranny over we, the people – as history has sadly proven in many countries around the world.
Further, I believe our leaders on both sides of the aisle are missing the point. America does not have a gun problem. We have a culture problem. Nearly every mass shooting that occurs is perpetuated by young, mentally-ill individuals who lack a sense of belonging, purpose, and community. The question we must ask ourselves is not ‘why are there so many guns in so many hands?’… rather, it must be, ‘why are there so many young Americans suffering from depression and derangement?’
As a Generation Z American, I sadly witness the moral depravity and growing anxiety amongst our youth every single day. Now more than ever, we must reinvigorate faith and an honest education in our public school system, and encourage young Americans to be involved in school, sports, and church. We must fight back aggressively on the Left’s war against masculinity and put an end to the perverted ideas about gender that are plaguing the minds of young children.
Legislatively, Congress must pass National Constitutional Carry and repeal the Gun Free School Zones Act of 1990 that has never and will never stop ONE criminal from shooting up a school, but prevents law-abiding parents and teachers from defending themselves. Rather than send billions of dollars to protect foreigners overseas, Congress should provide more funding to states to enact school safety measures at every public school in America, including single point of secure entry, armed security guards, and firearm safety for public school teachers.”
