Is The Canadian Government Boot-Stomping Free Speech?

The Trudeau Government is already at the top of a lot of the list for increasingly oppressive conduct against its people. It’s also going the way of many a nation in the British ‘Empire’ alongside rising tyrannies like Australias.

While Canadians have “freedom of thought, belief, opinion, and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication,” the government has been known to put a jackboot on these rights based on nebulous concepts like hate speech.

Did you like my speech? No, I hated it.

Mark Stein spent years fighting such accusations in Canadian Court and eventually emerged victorious at a significant cost in legal fees and occupational hazards. Publishers don’t want to get sued, so they might not have your back.

Canada also controls and licenses all News media in the Great Dominion, including not licensing them.

Justin Trudeau’s hand-picked government censorship panel has just declared that Rebel News journalists are not “qualified” to be news media. We just learned, that over the past year, Trudeau has spent countless tax dollars on a hand-picked team of government censors who were “studying” Rebel News in secret — they never reached out to us or spoke with us or interviewed us.

If you are not a state-sanctioned stenographer, then you’re nothing. We get that. The Corporate Media in America have been caught red-handed, lying left and right well, mostly left. But they look at it the same way the politicians do.

That was so yesterday. We need to look forward.

Reporting on that fraud is fun, and we get to do it without much resistance because we’ve got this First Amendment thing here in the American Colonies. Even the liberal Justices on the US Supreme Court will defend that. And Free Speech is one of the few rights enumerated in the Constitution that you can expect all nine justices to protect.

Whether shiny-new Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson will agree remains to be seen, but how many 8-1 rulings on speech can a justice defend when they are the only one who thinks free speech needs tweaking?

No such worries in Canada. Stepping on people’s rights has a long and complex history that predates Justin Trudeau’s tyranny. They, like Australia, have gone way down the wrong road when it comes to individual liberties.

Your betters will do and say whatever from the front seat while looking back at you like unruly children.

They’re not China, Russia, Washington DC, or any other Marxist realm, but that’s the thing about creeping tyranny. It’s creepy. If you don’t step up and push back – in most cases daily – it will win a war of attrition.

One day all those tiny violations you dismissed will have piled up high enough to topple over everything, and then it’s over.

Rebel News is pushing back. They’ve filed a lawsuit. Whether that will stand up to government scrutiny remains to be seen. The courts work for the same government alleged to have infringed on your rights.

Anyone whose been at this a while understands. The only actual separation of power is between the ruling class and its people.

America’s founders tried to put the people above the government, and that’s messy. And it worked for a while, but it’s been in rehab for about a century, and the government’s taxpayer-funded “marriage counselor” has picked a side.

And it’s not yours.
