Can I Have My Liberty Back Now?

by

The problem with progressives is that they believe they know what’s best for you even if you don’t agree with it. You don’t have the right to make a call about your own health safety and wellness.

That would be far too risky. Individual liberty dies a slow death in their hands at the quest for the “greater good of everyone.”

On Thursday, during the Keene city council meeting, they are set to debate and make a decision on whether or not to kill or renew the mask ordinance for another 60 days.

A continuance does not have the support of the mayor but he doesn’t call the shots on this one. And on a side note that’s about the only thing on the mayor’s plate of ideas and policies that seems to be edible. Scrape the rest in the trash.

We remember when they first debated this ordinance. People spoke out against it by a 4-1 margin. A poll of several businesses in the city also rejected it with a similar margin. Yet the decision was made to move forward with it anyway. Some of us will not be holding our breath on this one.

Let’s review the facts to date, shall we?

According to Keene‘s police chief, they have received 18 complaints of people not wearing masks and seven complaints regarding a business that they felt was not enforcing it.

No fines have been given as of yet.

Did you catch that number again? ZERO. In most cases, people are choosing to follow or choose not to. All by themselves. And for the most part, leaving each other alone about their decisions. There are a few exceptions of course as there always are.

Covid hospitalization and cases were already on an upward tick before this ordinance. They have now plateaued and are on the way back down while deaths have NOT increased at all.

Do not forget the context of things here with the hospital being short-staffed and not able to have as many beds available as they had a year ago ( jab mandates anyone?).

Staffing puts them at about 1/3 of the beds, but even in that context, we are seeing some of the lowest numbers of hospitalization akin to what we saw during the summer. Summer when we had NO mask ordinance.

Seems to me looking back on the testimony taken from hospital officials that they all would qualify to be on the WMUR weather team.

All of this is pointless unless we’re all wearing an N95 or above mask anyway right?

Here’s a radical suggestion. Let’s kill the ordinance. Scrap it and let the people make their own decisions. Give us that liberty back.

If people do not feel safe going out then they can choose to do two things. Either wear an N95 or higher rated mask to protect themselves from the heathens, curbside pick up or stay home.

Do not push your fear-based policy on the rest of us.

I think most of us anticipate which direction this one is going to go. But at the end of the day the greater community really has no one to blame but themselves as we are the ones who continue to elect them.
