Quick Thought – Stupid UL Editorial Sounds like Lloyd at Treehugger

by

This stupid UL editorial sounds like Lloyd and most of the denizens at Treehugger. Autumn, leaves, removal – leafblowers, ranting about leafblowers.

Ahh, the glorious sights and sounds of late autumn in New Hampshire. The sights include the lawn signs demanding climate action NOW. The sounds, from dawn to dusk, include those coming from the leaf-blowing machines that attempt to defeat Mother Nature at her own game. Often, the same lawns are in play.
Back in the day, many a fallen leaf was raked into a pile and set ablaze, adding a sharp but pleasant aroma to the crisp air. Burning of leaves, or pretty much anything, is forbidden these days. But the leaf blower, powered by gasoline or battery, rules.

Gas-powered versions contribute the most pollution, although making and charging batteries also requires energy. As for noise pollution, either method puts a rake to shame.

One watches in bemusement as the yard workers, most with ear protection, toil away at removing the leaves, only to have Mother Nature put her own lips together and blow a new crop of leaves from the trees or the neighbor’s yard. Talk about steady work.

Then feel free, jockos, to come on over and remove mine.  If you do, and I see you with rakes in hand, I’ll put my battery-operated leaf blower back into the garage.

My double herniated disks in my spine will thank you; my leafblower puts a rake to shame in protecting my back.  Like Lloyd, however, you put your serenity above others. Fine, I put my need to see my lawn healthy in the Spring above your “silence” wants.

You see, maybe the Editors at the UL have the money to bring in lawncare specialists to do the dirty (and noisy) work for them while they are at work and don’t have to listen to THOSE leafblowers. Or have you taken the high road and told them to use only rakes – and are willing to pay for them?  Otherwise, I’ll continue to remove those leaves at my convenience and not yours, ye of so high and mighty status.

Or, you’re telling us that you’re absolutely willing to pay extra to clear out all the mold, that has now ruined your lawn, created by that 6″ leaf covering by leaving all those leaves untouched?

I don’t have that problem – my leaves are all gone from my yard and Mother Nature is done with her Fall leaf tasks so I’m literally in the clear.

No thanks to you.
