Alec Baldwin shot and killed someone with a ‘prop gun’ on the set of the movie Rust, in New Mexico. A live round was chambered, no one checked the firearm, and Baldwin discharged it in the direction of a cinematographer and a director. One is dead, the other injured. What’s the charge?

We asked that in this week’s poll question. With what should Alec ‘prop gun’ Baldwin be charged.

Here are the responses, the results are rounded.

  • 8% said he would not be charged with anything because he’s Alec Baldwin (and that he will now be even more of an insufferable anti-gun jerk).
  • 12% said no charges because New Mexico has an excusable homicide statute.
  • 27% chose second-degree murder.
  • 48% think it should or would be involuntary manslaughter.
  • 5% wondered what was good on Netflix. (I like to toss in an “out” for people who want to participate but don’t necessarily give a damn.)

Baldwin has not been charged and the shooting death is still under investigation.

Hundreds of live rounds were found in and around the set where the shooting occurred, according to the Sheriff’s office.
