In California, they let you out of jail and then let you steal other people’s stuff. The result has been a gold rush of thefts in places like San Franciso, where you can steal up to 950.00 worth of whatever is on the shelf, and no one will stop you, arrest you, or prosecute you.
If the Police do bother, at best it’s a misdemeanor, and your back at it – probably the same day – in many cases working for what are probably organized shoplifting syndicates.
Walgreens, for its part, has been closing stores in the Bay Area ever since but has recently escalated its departure. They just announced five more stores are closing in Poop City.
Walgreens is closing five more San Francisco locations as drug stores from the Bay Area to the Big Apple are besieged by rampant shoplifting and lax enforcement.
San Fran shoplifters have been emboldened by a referendum that lowered the penalty for stealing goods worth less than $950 from a felony to a misdemeanor, cops and prosecutors have said
A spokesperson for the company confirmed the latest closures to SFGate.
“Organized retail crime continues to be a challenge facing retailers across San Francisco, and we are not immune to that,” Walgreens spokesperson Phil Caruso told the outlet.
While thefts are a problem, the potential threat of violence against patrons and employees is real. When you lower one bar, the rest inevitably follow. Anyone with the mind could just as easily injury bystanders in the course of their shoplifting. Not that the impact of that is limited.
Every store that closes cuts people off access to products and services they need. And sure, you can probably buy some of that shoplifted stuff on the street, but it’s not the same as having the selection of an entire Walgreens, or its pharmacy, or any of the other products it offers, none of which will be available to steal after they leave.
In other words, whatever “good” progressives thought they were doing when they pushed Prop 47 and then decided not to prosecute thefts up to 950.00 is causing significant, long-term harm to a majority of the people for whom they claim to stand.
But that’s nothing new.
These people think they are the most intelligent folks in the building, but in this example, they are easily outsmarted by street criminals the Dems probably let out of jail.
