Merrimack Valley School Board Chair Seelye Longnecker, not liking constituents that defied her will to remove themselves from the gym for not wearing masks, threatened to call the cops for being anti-mask.
After the 30 or so minutes of the crowd making it crystal clear that they were in no mood to obey and were leaning more towards “Up Yours! she finally had the Concord Police called.
So, a simple question:
Did she really expect that the crowd, who was already ignoring you was going to get up when only two (2!) officers walked into the gym?
Taller than I, certainly in better shape and stronger than I, but only two. And there were some in the audience that were bigger as well.
And who knew how many were armed (remember, the Federal Gun Free Zone law allows people whose NH Pistol-Revolver licenses have been signed by Law Enforcement to carry on school grounds. That has never been adjudicated here in NH. But there are those that….).
No, I could tell by their positioning and body language that they weren’t there to back up the tin pot despot.
And, I bet, they realized that they were tremendously outnumbered and they saw cameras rolling. Not a good look so they decided just to have a “presence.”
They really did nothing at all.
And that’s what the attendees did – nothing. Just as they had been doing the entire time. Just sitting there since the beginning.
Longnecker’s “bold” bluff fizzled – the “tell” was recognized and the School Board struck tents and finally left.
And the two officers quietly talked with the audience once the meeting was aborted.
So, that old saw that says you “can’t fight City Hall”? Sure you can, and the attendees proved it in this little skirmish. Citizens 1, Longnecker 0.
