NH Representative David Luneau (D-Hopkinton) Files Legislation Against Parental Rights

In a recent statement by House Education Committee Vice-Chair Glenn Cordelli, had this to say about “Representative David Luneau’s (D-Hopkinton) plans to file legislation to limit school choice and cap Education Freedom Accounts for low-income families.”

“As school choice popularity is at an all-time high and hundreds of Granite State families apply for Education Freedom Accounts, it is clear that families are dissatisfied with the quality of the education that they are receiving. It is a shame that the Democrat Party is attempting to place a reprehensible and arbitrary limit on parents trying to find the best education opportunities for their children. Considering that many of these families are low-income, this deplorable action is just another way in which Democrats have turned their back on the children and students of the Granite State.

Representative Luneau is trying to limit the number of students who can leave their public school using an Education Freedom Account available to low-income families.  Wealthy parents can remove their children at any time.

This means that if you are a low-income family with a child who is bullied, or they are not following your child’s IEP and your child is suffering academically, your child must continue to suffer.

Who is looking out for your children?

This is an attempt to protect an organization that is failing the children entrusted to their care.

At some point, I hope that parents realize that when they see actions like this from their elected representatives, it tells them that best interest of your child is not the priority. The priority is, protecting an organization that is not meeting the fundamental needs of your children.

It would have been better for Rep. Luneau to work with his colleagues and/or school administrators to fix the problems that currently exist, in an effort to reduce the number of families looking for alternatives. They can start by surveying parents who choose to remove their child from the local public school. If the reasons for that removal can be addressed by the administration, then fix the problems.

Too often, parental complaints go ignored. This forces parents to keep their child in an atmosphere that may be harmful to them physically or academically, and it doesn’t address the root problems that may exist.

Who is looking out for your children? Obviously not anyone who files or supports this legislation.
