I know that Oregon is part of the Leftist Left Coast but this is just bonkers. One of the biggest costs to taxpayers is the “public school” system that has no end of “schoolies” that believe absolutely NOTHING is wrong with govt schools that your money can’t fix. This, however, is Stupidity on a Stick that NO amount of money can fix this:

An Oregon high school diploma does not guarantee that students who earned it can read, write or do math at a high school level.
Yet, a frequent commenter (although less and less lately) Bruce Currie keeps defending Government Schools and believes that mere money can cure any of its ills.
Back to the “NO amount of money can fix this” – that’s because either Schools have become all about how much money they can get or how woke they’ve become. It really was only a matter time that the items that were supposedly the mission would be relegated to the ash heap of history: Academics. Schools without bothering with scholastic rigor?
That pretty much makes Govt schools the same as Christian churches that no longer really believe in the fundamental tenets of Christianity – country clubs but without the golf courses, tennis courts, or pools. Reformatted, emphasis mine
Governor Kate Brown dropped the requirement that students demonstrate they have achieved those essential skills by signing Senate Bill 744 into law. She declined again Friday to comment on why she supported suspending the proficiency requirements, reported OregonLive.
The bill was not entered into the legislative database until July 29, a departure from the standard practice of updating the public database the same day a bill is signed. Charles Boyle, the governor’s deputy communications director, said the governor’s staff told legislative staff the same day the governor signed the bill. Boyle said in an emailed statement that suspending the reading, writing and math proficiency requirements will benefit “Oregon’s Black, Latino, Latina, Latinx, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Tribal, and students of colour.”

Way to go, dude – you just called all minorities STUPID. You and your boss just confirmed the stereotype we Conservatarians have of the Left – the Messiah Complex disease. Translation: you can’t make it unless we help you.
Right – make Oregon into Detroit where 40% of the population is illiterate. Now, Oregon has basically said “being stupid and ignorant is the way to be successful in your future lives”.
China and Russia and the rest of our economic rivals are nodding in approval.

Right. Expanded learning opportunities? No, it’s not. This is just more Social Justice gobbledegook that means well make sure that equal outcome is ensured – a diploma is now the latest in the line of participation trophies – good enough to participate in the unemployment and welfare lines.

Lawmakers did not pass any significant expansion of learning opportunities or support for black, Indigenous and students of colour during the 2021 legislative session.
Democrats in the legislature overwhelmingly supported ending the longtime proficiency requirement, while Republicans criticized it for lowering academic standards. A couple of lawmakers crossed party lines on the votes.
I’ll go there – there is no limit to Democrat perfidy in keeping Blacks on the Democrat plantation – abject misery, entrapped within the dependency of the Democrat political machine. Never escaping The Machine.
With this latest bit, under the guise of helping, Democrats have made it clear that they will FORCE “equity” – the forcing of equal outcomes. The problem in having that as a “value” is that to enable that to happen, the only way to do it is go lowest common denominator. Parents, WHY didn’t you stop this? These are YOUR children.
It’s a perfect example, performed by Democrats, of Critical Race Theory. I hold that these Whites ARE oppressing these minorities and making them into “forever victims”.
And they know not what they do….but rejoice in it anyways.
