A Founder of the Free State Project Says, “I’m Everything Wrong with the Conservative Movement” …

This is amusing.  A Founding Father of the free state project, Dr. Jason Sorens, has announced that I’m everything that’s wrong with the conservative movement today. Everything? That seems like a lot.

The remark is based on a share from Jon DiPietro of a post I dropped on Twitter written by Ed Mosca.

Just for full disclosure, I responded, and Dr. Sorens replied.

And that’s great, but that thing is still hanging out there. The whole @TheRealNHSteve is “…everything that’s wrong with the conservative movement today.”

That doesn’t pop out of your head based on one shared link.

I’m trying to decide what, if anything, to do with it aside from blogging about it.

I’m thinking about sewing it on a pillow. Maybe I’ll make it my tagline. Possibly add it to my bio. Many conservatives can’t stand Libertarians (not me, I think they’re great for conservatism), and that “nod” might actually be good for traffic.

Maybe I can have my wife needlepoint it and frame it.

It would make a great conversation starter. Like, who the hell is Jason Sorens, for example?

If you don’t know him, Jason is a brilliant guy with a Ph.D. in political science, and he’s basically the father of the Free State Project. He graduated from Yale and has an impressive list of accomplishments.

I have no degree, work a day job, and do this as a hobby.

I have written no books, nor am I cited in any long list of journals I’m just slogging it out down here in the trenches every day, wrecking conservatism.

I guess I’m going to have to go figure out exactly what it is Dr. Sorens thinks conservatism is for context. And does he disagree with Andrew Breitbart that Politics is downstream from culture? That would explain the endless culture war remark.

But isn’t politics an expression of culture in a free society?

To win at politics, the Left went to war with our culture. They engaged in endless action to infiltrate and undermine institutions. They deliberately made everything political, making it nearly impossible to separate any culture in America from politics.

And here we are.

I’m mud wrestling with superintendents to free children from the clutches of progressive culture. Using snark and science to battle lies about COVID19 and the climate. Working on getting elected officials back into the restraints of the constitution. Trying to get Republicans to follow their own party platform.

If that’s what’s wrong with conservatism, I’m excited about how much more wrong I can be.
