It’s a feature, not a bug. #woke Seattle embraced post-Geroge-Floydian systemic violence by letting local cops know they did not have their backs. Get out there and do something…and we might make you the next Derek Chauvin. Oh, and we’re cutting your budget.
The net result was on TV until the Networks realized that most Americans were outraged by not just the ceaseless violence of liberal punks and thugs but that elected officials were making popcorn and watching with a glint in their eye.
A year later and the effect of Democrat leadership has produced predictable results. They do destroy everything they touch. Exponential increases in personal and property crime and fewer cops. They quit, retired early, and fewer folks are stepping up to try out for the job.
Woke is as woke does, but at some point, elected Democrats want to get re-elected, and even Democrat voters who have not yet been victims of crime or violence begin to suspect that real-life progressivism is nothing like the movie.
Seattle might not run on Durkan for very much longer if Mayor Jenny (Durkan) doesn’t at least pretend there’s a problem and that she is aware of it and willing to do something. So she pretends.
“…as I said last year, the city has an obligation to still continue constitutional policing and respond to 911 calls.
“It is a false choice between community-led solutions and police officers,” Durkan said. “We need both.”
The mayor said she will be submitting a plan to hire more police officers and rebuild the depleted force.
“Not unexpected, losing these number of officers, when city leaders talk about cutting the department by 50%,” Durkan said.”
Her plan is to get re-elected, and that means making some noise about hiring officers for something other than Facebook or Twitter live video that gives pols like Durkan a few shoulders to stand on for her next Marxist rant.
There is a sense in her remarks that she means to fund police and back them up.
Danger Will Robinson, Danger! Durkan will not have your back.
These are the same Democrats. Nothing about them has changed. They have been running these cities for decades. Everything wrong as described by them is because of them. Every imagined ill is a by-product of systemic Democrat-Socialism.
The only cure is across-the-board change. Remove them all from office and keep them out long enough to create a shift in culture throughout local government and the bureaucracy.
Jenny Durkan doesn’t care about law and order. She cares about creating a perception that will protect her political backside and any aspirations for higher office.
