Former Democrat State Senator Sentenced to 60-Days in Jail for Domestic Assault

Early on in the #MeToo movement, New Hampshire had a soap opera moment all its own. A high-ranking Democrat state Senator was accused of domestic assault against his Democrat girlfriend. Several Democrats, including women, chose his side and the battle lines were drawn.

It’s been a few years and dozens of articles later but a verdict and sentence were finally handed down. Former Democrat State Senator Jeff Woodburn has been sentenced to 60 days in jail.

Former state Senator Jeffrey Woodburn was sentenced to serve 60 days in jail Tuesday for biting his ex-fiancee’s arm and breaking the door to her home almost three years ago, but it is unlikely he will see the inside of a cell any time soon as he is appealing the convictions to the state Supreme Court.

Woodburn’s journey has been an interesting one. Jeffy plead not guilty despite his own journal entries clearly documenting anger issues as well as ample physical evidence.

His Democrat supporters went ballistic against a Democrat woman, hellbent on saving Woodburn’s political career at her expense in contradiction to the, at the time, trending hashtags from the Left like #BeleiveWomen and #MeToo. Add to that the PussyHat rebellion which later fell apart under the weight of its hypocritical founders much like Woodburn’s defense.

Back in New Hampshire Woodburn ran for re-election. A few local Democrats backed a write-in “primary opponent” but that individual lost. Democrat voters picked the accused domestic assaulter in the “primary” but did not turn out in numbers during the General Election so Republican David Starr won the seat.

The trial, slated for last year, was repeatedly delayed ‘cuz COVID but when everyone finally had a chance to sit down and look at the evidence Woodburn was convicted on four counts. A the time I wrote that “It’s not clear when sentencing is from these reports. He could serve jail time, but I find that unlikely. He’s not a Republican.”

He has been sentenced and I stand by my opinion. I doubt he’ll spend a day behind bars and with the State Supreme Court loaded with Sununu-Ruling Class Homers I find it unlikely they will uphold the 60-Day Sentence.

The Parties may fight like spoiled children in the GraniteState but the closer you get to the “top” the more aligned their interests become. No one is all that keen on embarrassing the “family” so anyone even remotely connected stands little chance of serious consequences.

The question remaining is this. Is or was Jeff Woodburn connected enough for it to matter? We’ll have to wait for him to waste more of the taxpayer’s money on the appeal, but then he is a Democrat and they excel at wasting other people’s money.

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly noted that Woodburn lost his primary. He won the Democrat primary then lost the General. The text has been corrected.
