That was President Gerry Ford back in 1974; the quote’s attribution goes back much earlier.
The Bigger the Government, the smaller the Citizen. We on the Right understand that and understand that completely. The further that the Power of Control is removed from Citizens geographically, our Rights suffer. Why?
They can ignore us. They can do what they want. Case in point right now is what is going on in Washington. Do you think that I agree with ANYTHING President Asterisk is doing (or the puppet masters laughing as they pull his strings) right now? Of course not – but there’s not a dang thing I can do about it. Not one thing. He and his “aides” have all called folks like me “domestic terrorists” – they’d rather clap me into a high-security jail than actually give me “credence” by answering back.
Ditto for my Federal coven acting like Ambassadors from the Federal Government than my elected representatives. So think about that as you read the ramifications of what the these four (Jeanne Shaheen, Maggie Hassan, Annie Kuster, and Chris Pappas) really want to do to us under the guise of doing it FOR us – having Government provide EVERYTHING for us:
The Left hates the idea, back to the time of FDR with his second Bill of Rights, that our Founders set up Negative Rights – that which the Government CAN’T do to you. These were enumerated in our Bill of Rights and they knew that it would help to keep us free from Govt Tyranny AS LONG AS our elected Representatives inculcated those values as well. Instead, FDR made the mad dash, and set the stage for, towards having Government supply you with everything. The “Progressive” thing to do.
The Socialist thing to do – turn us from valuing Rugged Individualism and being Dependent on Government.
Go through that list – sure, the “benefits” may appear to be nice – you wouldn’t have to work or provide for your family as Govt would give you everything! That was the jist of FDR and his pack of Progressives wanted to do – change from Negative Rights to “Positive Rights”. Obama once said:
Obama in his interview disparages the Constitution as merely ”
a charter of negative liberties. It says what the states can’t do to you. Says what the federal government can’t do to you but doesn’t say what the federal government or state government must do on your behalf.”
So he and other Socialist want Government to do things FOR you. But they never talk about what happens when someone hits the STOP button. After all, after decades of paying into Social Security, you do realize that the Feds are under no compulsion, even in Law, to pay to you what it “owes” to you. So look at the “negatives” if Government decides to NOT supply you with all those things – or decides (see domestic terrorist, above) that you are no longer eligible for those “Positive Rights”?
