Longtime American Federation of Teachers Union President Douglas Ley has passed away from cancer. Representative Ley died last night at home, surrounded by family.
Our thoughts and prayers got out to his family and friends.

Dad spent his last day here at home in a peaceful state, surrounded by his family. We are all comforted in knowing that we were able to respect his wishes to bring him home and give him a taste of New Glarus Spotted Cow beer before he passed away late last night.
Please continue to leave comments and well wishes here on this site as we intend to download and save them all to look back on. I am genuinely amazed at the number of folks who have reached out already and continue to do so. My dad was a good man and it brings me to tears hearing & seeing how many folks he touched and how many people care about him and our family. I miss him already.

As politics goes, we had next to nothing in common with Doug Ley. Rep Ley was, on occasion, the object of our discussion. But we never wish ill of our political adversaries, not harm, nor illness, certainly not death, though some among them may not believe that.
We prefer to hold to an older time when it was possible to disagree on the politics but still be civil outside that realm. Sadly, too much of what was once outside is now consumed by politics. It is everywhere.
That does not oblige us to embrace the trend.
