So, Sununu goes along with Sasse’s Stupid Idea about Unemployment “Incentives”? - Granite Grok

So, Sununu goes along with Sasse’s Stupid Idea about Unemployment “Incentives”?

US Senator Ben Sasse (“Stupid Idea: “Sasse Introduces Legislation to Convert Boosted Unemployment Benefits to ‘Signing Bonus’ “) is all over about turning the current Federal $300 weekly unemployment bonus into a “signing bonus” if those on the public dole got a job (as opposed to just doing the Funcation deal as that (and the former $600/week Fed bonus for being unemployed) is what that $300 really is). It’s a stupid idea to pay those already receiving a Federal unemployment bonus yet another Federal unemployment bonus if they do what they’re supposed to do anyways.  I had said in that post:

Incentives, when targeted correctly to the right people at the right time for right purpose, work. It invokes “self-interest” of individuals when the value of the incentive is sufficient to overcome any reticent of an individual to NOT do something when the incentive is trying to persuade to YES (or the other way around).

And our elected Kinglet, Chris Sununu, is following down that same path (like he’d be listening to all of us saying what I just said above) as I just heard him last nite say pretty much the same deal.

Sidenote: who in his coterie of hanger-ons play the role of the Jester? My GOSH it just gets worse and worse….

The Union Leader is reporting (since I didn’t DVR WMUR) (emphasis mine, reformatted):

In a carrot-and-stick approach to reducing the state’s unemployment rolls, Gov. Chris Sununu will end the federal $300-per-week unemployment benefit and immediately offer a $1,000 bonus to those who find full-time work. On Tuesday, Sununu signed a letter to U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh informing the Biden administration that New Hampshire would end the discretionary federal boost in 30 days, on June 19. In turn, beginning today[Wednesday], anyone who gets off unemployment and keeps a job for at least eight weeks will receive a $1,000 state check, Sununu said. Part-time workers will get a $500 bonus.

And then the REAL irritating part:

Only those getting jobs that pay less than $25 an hour will be eligible for the bonus…Sununu said he is setting aside $10 million in federal grants for the bonuses, which will be given out on a “first-time, first-served basis.” “We know at least 10,000 Granite Staters will have an opportunity for some stipend or bonus,” Sununu said. “That is your own money — go get it.

Really Chris? That’s not THEIR money. It’s not the State’s money either. It isn’t even the Fed’s money.  It’s OUR money that you are giving away. You wanna get employees for YOUR company? Pay that incentive – your pocket, you money. What you do with it is not my concern and shouldn’t be the concern of any Democrat, either. That’s private.

But using our money to “incentivize” someone to get a job???  It used to be common sense that if you found yourself unemployed, getting a new position WAS YOUR JOB!!!  Until the Democrats (along with some Repubs and Trump that didn’t want to get called mean and cold-hearted) made it comfortable to do nothing. Just couch it all day long.

Sorry, right NOW, where thousands of jobs are going begging here in NH, WHY PAY THEM TO GET ONE????  Cutting the Funcation weekly bonus from $727 back down to the normal $427 (at the high end) would be enough of an incentive for my to get my posterior in gear to provide for my family instead of coasting on Govt Wagon.

Once again, leave it to Govt to create perverse incentives JUST TO GO TO WORK!  Isn’t earning a living enough of an incentive?

In Sununu’s eyes, because it isn’t HIS money, I guess now. Just the happy guy passing out hundred dollar bills either way – pay me know or…still pay me later.

“Our situation has evolved really for all the better,” Sununu said.

When is he going to “evolve”?
