Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine: the Go Ahead to Use has been Given.

by

Usage of the “One And Done” vaccine (as it has been labeled) was halted when it came up that an extremely few ladies, from 18-48 years of age, suffered blot clots (and there is a report that one man died from blood clots).

It looks like they had a very rare disease dealing with low platelets that exhibited formations like those found with, yet again, clots that were also using the blood thinner heparin (I did a study on heparin when interning at BU Medical School while an undergrad).

The word just came down that the “halt” has been lifted by the CDC as the benefits of the vaccine (deaths from catching and then dying from WuFlu) far out exceeded these tragic outcomes for those very few. I do not wish to make light of their plight but I think that the right decision has been made.

The committee’s recommendation, approved 10-4, is that the J&J vaccine is recommended for persons 18 and older in the U.S. under the FDA’s emergency use authorization.

Health officials said Friday they were aware of 15 cases of the unusual clots since the government authorized use of the vaccine and nearly 8 million shots were given. All were women, most of them under 50. Three died, and seven remain hospitalized.

Do the math – and realize that these don’t even rise to any reasonable rounding error. Look, Life isn’t safe. At all. We just have become so well off and have been trained to believe that everything is safe that we truly, as a Society, that there is no longer any Risk involved with Life that when Risk rears its head, we’re like turtles that just rocket their heads back into their shells.

We have a lot of readers that have taken one of the vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, or J&J) and many have made it clear that they won’t.  Either is fine by me because YOU get to make that decision for yourself. Both I and TMEW made our own decisions (where TMEW implored me) to take The Jab.

Two weeks ago tomorrow, at 8:37am (our appointment at the Loudon track was for 10am but we went early thinking we’d be shuffled off to the side until our turn came up). We came in from the North entrance, traveled the back areas of the facility, and then ended up in line under the big tent waiting our turn.  We were really surprised by two things:

  • How FAST things were going, given the first mass vaccination event at the track where people were complaining about waiting 3 hours. We were on the track land only 37 minutes including the Observation time required after The Jab.
  • As we drove into the tent (wide enough for seven (?) vehicles at a time), EVERYONE was clapping and tell us thank you for getting vaccinated – with VIGOR!

And I was surprised by the organization – take right from a US Navy carrier’s deck. In that scenario, each person on deck wears a color coded vest denoting their job. Instead of Fuel, Munitions, Aircraft Handlers, et al, these folks’ vests had Central Control, Traffic, Vaccinator, Vaccine Support, Doctor, and the like. It really was VERY well orchestrated!

Once everyone in every vehicle that was there to get the Jab, all the cars were rolled out from under the tent (again, to applause) and into lanes for observation and a new batch were guided in. In the Observation line, a dedicated set of folks would go up and down the line talking to us the entire time (“HE’S BREATHING!” – heh!) and then we drove off.

For the record, with all of the panic-porn that’s been going on, we only had three bouts of “side effects” (other than those needles go deep and our shoulders were sore):

  • We were tired on Sunday. Whether it was because I was up during the night with the Grandson, a “placebo” effect, or that we were affected by The Jab, we can’t tell. Just that we were tired.
  • TMEW had a headache the next day. Again, she does get them on a regular basis so who knows?
  • Wednesday, I woke up with a fat lip on the left side of my face (and numbness near it – I’ll withhold the political joke for now). Then the “fatness” traveled to the right side (like sloths in very slow motion). During the day, it diminished quite a bit and the next morning, it was pretty much gone. Never hurt – so rather benign. TMEW confirmed that it was a known side effect but those others really had fat, FAT lips that got painful from skin stretch – I didn’t get that.

And that’s it. So tomorrow, we’ll be “fully vaccinated” as of 8:37am.

While I’ve been going without the face diaper most of the time (wearing them in restaurants so that they don’t get in trouble with the Liquor Commission Police), NOW I won’t. And I get to really wear the GraniteGrok “I’VE BEEN VACCINATED (against Public Health Tyranny). People do get close to read it and most giggle at it.

I've Been Vacinated proof 2

(if you want one, go here).

Except the Karens. There will always be COVID Karens.

Just like Dr. Fauci whose pronouncement are probably the root cause of “vaccine hesitancy” as he’s continued to kvetch that vaccinated people still have to wear 10 masks, stay 60 feet apart and will have to be doing this for the next 10 years (ok, I exaggerate – but not by much, heh!).
