More Royal Decrees for Sununu’s Long Emergency

Sununu is at it again, issuing yet more of his unconstitutional Royal Decrees. In the 51 weeks (so far) of his Long Emergency, he’s signed 86 Emergency Orders and 28 Executive Orders. Here are the latest two.

Sununu apparently doesn’t know that the Legislature is back in session. Because, only the Legislature has the constitutional authority to make laws, but he keeps writing and enforcing them anyway. Perhaps he thinks it’s just “more efficient” for one man to make all the decisions.

Executive Order #28 extends the deadline on environmental studies, which have absolutely zero to do with the Covid emergency:

1. The following studies shall be completed no later than October 31, 2021, …. shall jointly study and report on:

  • a. The historical and forward looking greenhouse gas reduction potential of offshore wind in the Gulf of Maine at varying levels of system installations.
  • b. New Hampshire’s existing port infrastructure, coastal transmission infrastructure, and opportunities for New Hampshire to attract offshore wind supply chain operations to New Hampshire.

My personal opinion is that, with no actual Covid emergency to be seen, Sununu tramples on the Constitution for the sheer fun of it. Most of us aren’t laughing though.

With any luck, the General Court will revoke Sununu’s Long Emergency and take back the power that is theirs alone.

House Concurrent Resolution 2, proposing to end Sununu’s State of Emergency will be voted on:

House Legislative Administration Committee’s Executive Session: 03/09/2021 09:30 am
