Biden OMB pick, Neera Tanden, is the administration nominee to lead the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). She is a hyper-partisan Leftist. Her nomination is facing bipartisan opposition. Senator Joe Manchin came out against her confirmation. Joining Manchin are Senators Collins and Romney.
Romney’s statement says he would oppose Tanden’s nomination because of her past hyper-partisan rhetoric and partisan attacks. He believes it’s hard to return to comity and respect with such a nominee. Her overtly partisan statements will have a toxic and detrimental impact. The position is important to the working relationship between Congress and the administration.
OMB is a creation specifically non-partisan by design. Neera Tanden has neither the experience nor the temperament to lead this critical agency. Her past actions demonstrate exactly the kind of animosity Biden is pledging to transcend. Her nomination is an intentional stick in the eye.
A spokesperson for John Cornyn states Tanden has “zero chance” of confirmation for the post. The need for support from some Republicans was going to be necessary. Her history of negative remarks toward GOP lawmakers looms large.
Tanden has made a career of transparently partisan attacks
She has spent the lead-up to her confirmation hearings trying to purge her Twitter feed. It is replete with negative comments about Republican senators. Among those were tweets in which she refers to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell as having “broken our democracy.”
Tanden is on record as stating she loves referring to “Moscow Mitch” McConnell. Another deleted tweet urges people to “focus their ire on McConnell and the GOP senators who … enable him: Cory Gardner, Collins, Ernst, Cornyn, Perdue, Tillis, and many more.”
But it isn’t solely Republicans who have an issue with the administration’s OMB pick. Nomiki Konst, a former surrogate for Senator Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign is not a fan. Konst calls Tanden out as an enemy of the left. Konst is accusing her of inciting “serious threats.”
Tanden reportedly faces accusations of physically assaulting Faiz Shakir. Shakir is a former Sanders campaign manager. At the time of the incident he worked for the left-wing ThinkProgress. Tanden was the head of ThinkProgress.
Biden continues to support Tanden
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki touts her credentials. Psaki calls her an “Asian American woman” with “lived experience.” Tanden is apologizing for her divisive statements. Today she’s saying, “I deeply regret and apologize for my language – some of my past language.”
Will the groveling be enough. Doubt it. This is an act of blatant in-your-face partisanship. If this Biden OMB pick receives confirmation, DC officially officially removes the mask. It says to the nation “screw you” and announces itself to all as the uni-party bent on submission and control by any means necessary.
