Could this be a misunderstanding? On day one, doddering Joe Biden axed the Keystone Pipeline, ended thousands of union jobs. Warren Buffet’s trains will now move fossil fuels south from Canada’s Oil Sands to points in the US. At the same time, Washington is shepherding a pipeline project in Asia that will make the Taliban rich.

Turkmenistan has the fourth-largest gas reserves on the planet. It is also one of the world’s worse human rights offenders. “Freedom House’s latest Freedom in the World report ranks Turkmenistan as among the world’s worst offenders, below even North Korea in terms of freedom and civil liberties.”
It wants to sell its gas to points south, just like Canada, but there’s a problem that needs long-term fixing.
A Taliban delegation has paid a surprise visit to Turkmenistan to pledge support for a planned natural gas pipeline across Afghanistan, providing welcome reassurance for a project whose viability has long been rendered doubtful by security concerns.
The Taliban, another group, not known as a human rights leader, will protect the pipeline’s route across Afghanistan for a fee.
Not only would this undermine the elected Afghanistan government even further, but it would also reward the Taliban for insurgency to the tune of tens of millions of dollars each month. Who needs Russian bounties on U.S. soldiers when the State Department has crafted a scheme to reward the Taliban beyond their wildest dreams?
It’s a plan that has been on the boards since early in the Clinton Presidency. A pipeline project that would move Turkmeni resources down to a port in Pakistan. A US energy company influenced policy under Clinton.
Destabilization and the Afghan war after 9/11 (probably for oil and gas Trump proved the US never needed) put that project on a slow roll.
Nearly thirty years later, a different Democrat just put Pipefitters in the US out of work.
Democrat energy policies will put tens of thousands more Americans out of their jobs.
We will again become unnecessarily dependent on foreign sources for our energy needs.
But the Taliban stand to gain “tens of millions of dollars each month” indefinitely.
Someone in the Pipefitters union should ask if the Taliban are hiring. I hear have they have a training program that’s “to die for” with numerous intern and mentoring programs available around the world.
