Quick Thought – if Bernie Becomes Secretary of Labor, Will VT Gov Phil Scott Appoint a Republican Replacement?

VT Gov Phil Scott

Word is definitely afoot that Socialist Bernie (who tried to sweep the Dems off their feet in the Prez Primary again) is actively looking to be Biden’s Secretary of Labor. Can you see the havoc that could cause?

Having the Moscow Honeymooner in charge of all those regulatory sub-agencies and the enforcement thereof? Minimum wage, skewering of Right to Work laws at the State level, making it harder to provide for your family without having to join a union, unions having almost free reign to run roughshod over company owners….you get the picture.

But what about the other picture, the US Senate?

Right now, we’re seeing all kinds of angst over the remaining two seats in the US Senate yet to be determined in Georgia via runoffs. IF the GOP can win just one, they’d have control of the US Senate and be able to stymie both Pelosi in the US House and Biden in the White House with Cocaine Mitch just smiling away.

But if Bernie goes SecLabor, that leaves an opening. One that erstwhile Republican VT Governor Phil Scott would have to fill. Bernie’s last election was in 2018 – his term would end in 2023. Scott was just re-elected for another two-year term (e.g., he’s safe for a while).

While I did peruse the Vermont Constitution to see if there was an explicit Clause that would require Scott to appoint a replacement if Bernie was to vacate his seat, I didn’t find one. But for the sake of this post, let’s assume he has that Power.

RealClearPolitics has the US Senate 50-48 Republican Majority. If Georgia goes Dem for both, it’s a tie in the US Senate (assuming) Veep Commie Kamala being the President of the Senate, she gets to break any ties.

If Bernie joins the Biden Administration, the count is 50-47. Scott appoints a Republican, the count now goes to 51-47. Even with both pickups in Georgia, the Dems only get to 51-49.

Commie Kamala gets neutered in the voting – ties mean a bill fails. Assuming the US House and White House are Democrat-controlled, even if the Rs pass a bill in the Senate, it is most likely going to fail. But the reverse is also true. Any bad bills (from a Freedom/Liberty standpoint) passed in the US House will most likely fail in the Senate.

So, Vermont Governor Scott, what EVAH will you do?
