The deadliness of the lockdowns is something most of us just do not understand. Widespread lockdowns have seen implementation in response to COVID. They are as without unprecedent as they are unnecessary. Lockdowns have never been of use in disease control. These lockdowns were not part of the original plan. The initial rationale for lockdowns is: Slowing the spread of the disease will prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed.
It quickly became evident this was not a worry. In the U.S. and most of the world, hospitals were never at risk of seeing overwhelming numbers of patients. Yet the lockdowns, like the declarations of states of emergency, were undertaken and are kept in place. The medicine is turning out to have deadly effects; it is worse than the disease.
Anyone daring to talk about the economic harms from the lockdowns face accusations of heartlessness. Economic considerations are nothing in comparison to saving lives… Well if that is true why are we supporting abortions? But I digress; the economic effects are immediate, deep and far reaching.
Health impacts of lockdowns
Let’s peruse the effects on health. How about this factoid? The U.N. has estimated that 130 million additional people will starve this year as a result of the economic damage resulting from the lockdowns. Is that important? Did we put this into our response action calculation? Deadliness of the lockdowns was not fully and properly considered before implementation.
In the last 20 years we’ve lifted one billion people worldwide out of poverty. This year we are reversing that progress. It bears repeating, an estimated 130 million more people will starve to death this year? Tell us again how if we save even one life we must… freaking hypocrites.
Something else we changed for covid is people stopped bringing their children in for immunizations. That’s an issue. Diseases like diphtheria, whooping cough, and polio we vaccinate for because of their known effects on so many people.
Because people are so fearful and restricted they ignored these killers from the past. We fear COVID more than we fear these more deadly diseases. This wasn’t only true in the U.S. Eighty million children worldwide are now at risk of these diseases. We were making substantial progress in slowing them down, but now they are going to come back. Congratulations public health professionals; you technocrats, you…
And then there’s prevention foregone
Deadliness of the lockdowns is going to continue to unveil the myopic maliciousness for years to come. Large numbers of Americans, even though they had cancer and needed chemotherapy, didn’t go for treatment. Part of that was facility closures. Part of that was because they were more afraid of Covid than cancer.
Still others have skipped recommended cancer screenings. We’re going to see a rise in cancer and cancer death rates as a consequence. This is already starting to show up in the data. And we are also going to see a higher number of deaths from diabetes due to people missing their diabetic monitoring.
Mental health problems are the most shocking category. In June of a CDC survey found that one in four young adults between 18 and 24 had seriously considered suicide. Human beings do not by nature live alone. We’re meant to be in company with one another.
It is unsurprising that the lockdowns have had negative psychological effects that they’ve had. Our young adults and children are most at risk from denial of socialization. But hey, we all should hold hands a chant we hate Trump, right?
What we’ve been doing is requiring young people to bear the burden of controlling a disease from which they face little to no risk. This is entirely backward from the right approach. This entire situation has been a political calculation. It is an exercise we should learn from and never repeat.
The reason for the emergency declarations is past. End them. They cannot be justified. What is going on today is an exercise in suppression of freedom. This is nothing if not a governmentally enforced abandonment of our constitutional liberties.
