Too Much Blue But Some (Very!) Good News at the State Level in New Hampshire

New Hampshire still has two Democrat congressmen, and Sen. Shaheen did not lose. Gov. Sununu took Dan Feltes to the woodshed, however, and it looks like we may take the majority back in the Executive Council and State Senate. The Big Race is still too close to call.

Neither Biden nor Trump has the needed 270 electoral votes, which is itself a scary thing. That we live in an America where that race is this close. But I didn’t expect to know much when I went to bed, and that is what happened.

Meanwhile, in New Hampshire, everyone has called the state for Biden, Shaheen, Pappas, and Kuster. Blue.

But the Governor appears to have coattails this time around in the other races. Not much is finalized, and I expect a few recounts, but Republicans lead in four of the five Executive Council seat races. Only Democrat Cinde Warmington is winning her race.

In the State Senate, Republicans currently have a majority with 13 Republicans beating their Democrat opponents but only 7 of the races with called winners.

The NH House is too hard to call at this point, but I have some (hopefully) good news in my town of Merrimack. It’s still too close, but Republicans are ahead in 7 of the 8 available seats, with only Republicans Dick Hinch and Jeanine Notter called winners.

Going in the district was split 4 and 4. A shift to 7 out of 8 is a vast improvement if it holds up and more like what we call normal. And I’m wondering if that is a bellwether for State House races in New Hampshire given the results in the EC and State Senate?

Finger crossed. It would take some sting out of losing the other races.

No, I have not looked at Congress yet, but it didn’t sound good last night.
