Joe Biden Is a Prisoner in His Own Mind

by

Joe Biden is a prisoner in his own mind. He’s been in the basement for so long he’s lost whatever edge he may have once had. Biden and his handlers know he should be out and about. A candidate for the presidency needs to be weighing in daily on the issues of the day.

Biden should be offering alternative plans for dealing with the virus. He should be critiquing the lockdown. His explanation of how he is going to do a better job with the economic recovery is pretty important. Demonstrating a grasp of the violence, looting, and racial tensions should come out, at least foe contrast. Yo, Joe, where are you?

Biden’s handlers seem to assume he is capable of losing the election in moments. He’s got gaffes, lapses and prolonged silences. If he were to leave his basement and fully enter the fray even his handlers are scared. The campaign could implode.

So Team Biden are staying in the basement. They are relying on the fact the commander in chief is responsible for bad news. The Democrat Party only has to hold the base and create enough bad news. Watching the media there has been plenty of bad news worldwide this year.

We are watching the strategy play out. It looks like Biden cannot win. But the team seems to think he can back into the office if the Party can crap in Trump’s coffee cup. It’s a pretty bleak assessment of the situation.

Where of where is the public sentiment and why?

That reality is reflected in the spring and early summer polls. They were showing growing discontent with the incumbent. It looked as if he were responsible for one of the most depressing years in U.S. history. News cycles, like polls, are not static. Time is healing the wounds. The market is up and unemployment is down.

What was true in July is not necessarily true in September and will not be the same in November. Volatile years produce volatile voters. Many voters think they see a waning of the virus. Others think the virus was a nothing burger from the beginning. Many see a need to get their kids back in school. There is a glimmer of hope that the economy is recovering.

A large segment of the public is becoming irate at the nightly looting. The destruction and arson no longer seem to have much to do with George Floyd. Where are the police? Why are the mayors and the governors to protect the property and persons? People are feeling vulnerable.

The law-abiding and the small-business owners are going to hold somebody accountable. Who’s responsible for the violence? Democrats and their allies. Who’s calling for defunding police in the face of civil unrest? Democrats and their allies? What does this mean to minority voting? There are conservatives in minority communities. Joe Biden is a prisoner in his own mind, trapped by his campaign handlers.
