Kansas City Chiefs Fans Are Paying for their “Chief’s” Virtue-Signaling

Hey, I thought that if you were a “Chief,” you were in charge –  that others were supposed to bend to you. Not so much. The Kansas City Chiefs are the next professional sports team to take a knee to the Political Correctness Police.

In this topsy-turvy world, it is a minority of folks that are making those choices for us. In this case, the Chiefs are making their fans “take one for a team that won’t fight for itself.”

“In 2014, we began a dialogue with a group of local leaders from diverse American Indian backgrounds and experiences. As an organization, our goal was to gain a better understanding of the issues facing American Indian communities in our region and explore opportunities to both raise awareness of American Indian cultures and celebrate the rich traditions of tribes with a historic connection to the Kansas City area,” the statement explained.

Yep, right in step with the team formerly known as the Washington Redskins. But I can only think that the following is mere virtue-signaling by the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced new policies at their stadium meant to prevent fans from donning costumes and face paint that might offend American Indians, including the use of the “Arrowhead Chop.”…

…The team recounted how they had previously discouraged fans from wearing ceremonial headdresses and American Indian-themed face paint at Arrowhead Stadium, but had come to the conclusion that more measures were necessary. They said the new policies were developed with “a national organization that works closely on issues affecting American Indian people and tribes.

In addition to an outright ban on Native American-themed face paint and headdresses, the team said they would review the “Arrowhead chop,” a fan chant that includes a chopping action with the arm. “We are grateful for the meaningful conversations we have had with all of these American Indian leaders,” the statement concluded.

“Hey, we’re DOING something about our name” but deflecting what is being demanded; change THEIR name as well, by taking away stuff from their fans to show “good faith progress”.

No mention of how the fans are “offended.” But that wouldn’t be politically correct, would it? It is never those that are directly affected – only the perpetually offended. Talk to the perpetually offended but not to those that actually support the team. Their fans to whom these little rituals mean a lot and who, ahem, pay the money that makes the owners rather financially set.

You know, I don’t miss watching football at all anymore. Not NASCAR, either. I watch the swirling Leftist political claw embrace and absorb them – and just sigh.

I dunno about you but I’m getting tired of it all. In this case, perhaps Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson can make a go of his recently purchased XFL from WWE owner Vince McMahon.

Actually, maybe I should go back to professional wrestling. At least there I know its all “real fake” instead of this fake “truth” in the NFL.
