New addition to the ‘Grok “Stealing Campaign Signs” Hall of Shame: Jim Babcock of Gilford - Part 5 - Granite Grok

New addition to the ‘Grok “Stealing Campaign Signs” Hall of Shame: Jim Babcock of Gilford – Part 5

Jim Babcock

So, to recap (again):

  • Norm Silber (Grokster, retired Lawyer, former NH State Rep) signed up to run for the NH House again
  • He planted a campaign sign on the corner of Salt Marsh Pond Road and Gilford Ave on public land
  • Jim Babcock was seen stopping his pickup truck to throw Norm’s sign into his truck – and his license plate was captured.
  • That was turned into the Gilford Police.
  • Jim Babcock confessed, returned the sign, and tried to give a “sorry, not sorry” apology
  • Norm had written a document and sent it to NH Attorney General MacDonald’s office
  • The statement from the witness was written
  • Waiting for Jim Babcock to turn himself in for processing.

This past Monday, Jim Babcock finally turned himself into the Gilford Police to have the arrest warrant procedure processed.  I was told by Norm that a “not guilty” has already been entered as a plea (even though he had previously confessed to the crime to the Gilford PD)and was released on Personal Recognizance. According to GPD:

Given the current COVID-19 pandemic, the court has instituted a practice of waiving all arraignments, entering a not guilty plea on behalf of each defendant, and scheduling it for a Case Status Hearing.

Well, when you listen to the news, very few people enter a plea of other than “not guilty” but in this day of Zoom, GoToMeeting, Google Meet, et al,….? So we’ll wait for that Hearing and let you know. Now it seems that we are seeing the “wheels of Justice turn slowly” part of this process at work. Slowly being the operative word. Still need to find out from Norm if he’s heard back from NH Attorney General MacDonald on his request on handling of this case?

Sidenote: Why is it that I keep hearing from people that contacting that office never ends up with anything happening?
