Notable Quote – Glenn Reynolds

Time is running out on the shutdowns whether Government likes it or not:

IRISH DEMOCRACY: Something that can’t go on forever, won’t. The lockdown can’t go on forever, and it isn’t. In Tennessee, we’re following a reasonably well-thought-out plan for reopening things. But a friend from Manhattan writes that she’s seeing stores, coffee shops, etc., just spontaneously reopening in spite of the orders. Not with loud defiance, just ignoring the government. It’s “Irish democracy,” and we’re going to see a lot more of it.

The shutdowns were sold as “two weeks to slow the spread,” and “flattening the curve,” and so on, and lots of people thought that was sensible, and it was. A two-month (or longer) shutdown is a different animal, and nobody consented to that. So now people are, mostly silently, withdrawing their consent from the state.

Like we’ve been writing about here at GraniteGrok, enough is enough and moving the goalposts has made people angry. Just look at the comments here and it is clear that people have said, one way or another, they are willing to say “consent is being withdrawn“.

Not just now but also in November.

Some loudly, like us – but many, many have entered what Conservative Treehouse has labeled as “Cold Fury” and not saying word one. As I’ve said before, you are starting to see a second Preference Cascade starting up – the first was the spontaneous busting out of the TEA Party movement right after Rick Santelli’s rant against Obama’s trial balloon that the rest of us should be paying for other peoples’ mortgages (after we saw them re-finance and re-finance and re-finance only to watch them buy one expensive car after another or yet another nice vacation) while we responsible ones just took care of business and didn’t join the ever higher house prices (that allowed for re-financing) fad.

Which died just like Holland’s infamous Tulip market crash back in 1637. Speculation all the way up, heartache all the way down. And now, we’ve seen the hype of staying “safe” on the upside only to see the ever-mounting economic death on the other.  Tulips were a market phenomena – this is Government driven all the way.

After all, they can’t jail us all – we’re already, effectively, in home arrest.  And if they put us into a real jail, just think of the PR problem they’d face when a murderer gets released so as to not get the virus and one of us gets it?

Co-founder of GraniteGrok, my concern is around Individual Liberty and Freedom and how the Government is taking that away. As an evangelical Christian and Conservative with small "L" libertarian leanings, my fight is with Progressives forcing a collectivized, secular humanistic future upon us. As a TEA Party activist, citizen journalist, and pundit!, my goal is to use the New Media to advance the radical notions of America's Founders back into our culture.
