The “Washington Monument strategy” is named after a tactic used by the National Park Service to threaten closure of the popular Washington Monument when lawmakers proposed serious cuts in spending on parks. Roll Call calls it “an old legislative ploy where an agency threatens to close popular services first.” (H/T: Political Dictionary).
And Gov. Gavin Newsom went there. The “why” is money – Federal money. Trying to take advantage of DC’s favorite tactic of printing more and more checks the worse an emergency gets, Newsom has basically put his own people in front as political pawns in order to get LOTS of it. Hey folks, how’s it feel to be the Washington Monument to his National Park Service? That he’s willing to sacrifice you all simply over money?

First responders: Police, EMTs, Firefighters – he’s ready to throw you away. A bargaining chip. And yet, Progressives are ALWAYS screaming “People over Profit!” – and that’s exactly what he’s doing. In the land of legislative malfeasance and executive mismanagement, overpaid government workers, extravagant pet projects like the bullet train to nowhere, failing infrastructure, rotten schools, he’s willing to throw away his first responders IF ORANGEMANBAD doesn’t fork over a lot of non-Californian taxpayers.
“I hope they’ll consider this next time they want to salute and celebrate our first responders … consider the fact that they will be the first ones laid off by cities and counties,” Newsom said.
No, we have NO “ethical” obligation to make CA financially whole simply because they’ve spent decades putting themselves INTO a hole:
“It’s a social responsibility at a time when states large and small [ are] facing unprecedented budgetary stress. It is incumbent upon the federal government to support the states through this difficult time,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
If you believe that you can’t manage the State of California, quit. Resign. Hand it over to someone else. After all, with the likes of the Democrat Party that has put them into the state of lots of its citizens having pulled up stakes and moved either north or east, and hemorrhaging companies left and right, almost anyone could lose as well as you are.
It is only in Progressive fevered dreams that Society is supposed to mitigate everyone’s bad decisions and you yahoos have messed up badly for a coupla few generations now. And why would the rest of us watching you, Illinois, New York, et al, see that those States’ citizen keep electing the like of you swelled heads over and over again. Sorry, the buck oughta stop here – in my State and not to your’s.
Man up, own the mistakes, clean house, cut the budgets, claw back ridiculous pensions, stop taking in illegals that are sucking up money and breaking The Rule of Law. Make your State right and just leave us right alone.
