Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin has been arrested in connection with the death of Geroge Floyd (after three days of rioting). Video showing Chauvin pinning Floyd to the pavement went viral after George died in custody.

(Boston Globe) Thick smoke hovered over Minneapolis on Friday, hours after cheering protesters torched a police station that officers abandoned as a third night of violent protests flared over the death of George Floyd, a handcuffed black man who pleaded for air as a white police officer knelt on his neck. …

Dozens of fires were also set in nearby St. Paul, where nearly 200 businesses were damaged or looted. Protests spread across the U.S., fueled by outrage over Floyd’s death, and years of violence against African Americans at the hands of police. Demonstrators clashed with officers in New York and blocked traffic in Columbus, Ohio, and Denver.

The police responding to the riot have reportedly maced and shot at (rubber bullets) volunteer first-aid workers on the scene to help the wounded. They also arrested a CNN reporter and cameraman who probably deserve to be arrested but not for this.

Someone they do need to arrest is the officer who was with Chauvin. He stood there and watched as Floyd had the life more or less crushed out of him.
