Gabriel Wortman was shot and killed by Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) after he evaded them for twelve hours, killing 22 people and burning several homes. Wortman didn’t just have illegally obtained firearms, he wore an RCMP uniform and drove a car painted to look like their patrols.

It’s safe to say he put some thought into it. No “spur of the moment” rampage was this. And it has the RCMP holding its own ass.
First, Canada has rather restrictive gun laws and while the type or types of firearms used has yet to be revealed, we can be relatively certain there were no AR-15s involved. That would have been the first bit of news after the mass-murderer was laid to rest by Canadain Mounties.
Instead, we get,
That probe into firearms is occurring alongside a hunt for anyone who helped the killer obtain an RCMP uniform and a replica vehicle he used to deceive his pursuers and the public as he went about killing 22 people and setting fire to homes on the weekend.
Chief Supt. Chris Leather said Wednesday that “we have a fairly good idea that, in Canada at least, he didn’t have a firearms acquisition certificate.” …
Leather later said that it’s now a key part of the investigation to understand how Gabriel Wortman obtained his weapons, as well as an “authentic” police uniform and a Ford Taurus that was painted in a fashion identical to a regular RCMP patrol car.
They don’t know what they don’t know but there is so much illegal activity to go around we’ll have to get back to you. But he killed 22 people over 12 hours and burned a few homes for good measure.
Point being, laws are great for disarming law-abiding citizens who end up dead but people plotting to do bad things to good people are free to do whatever the hell they want until someone with permission to have a gun stops them.
Canada’s response will predictably be, to add a few more anti-gun laws.
While you’re at it make it illegal to impersonate an officer. What? You already did that. But he was dressed up as one. How can that be?
