Yep, that’s right – World Backup Day //////
Who knew there was such a thing? Anyways, I did mine – at 2am this morning. I’ve got a lot of data so it takes a lot of time but every (well, almost every) week, I do a full backup. If I’m doing software development, it’s every / every other day. Very rarely do I need to do a RESTORE (e.g., get a now missing or gone bad file (or worse – I only made ONE change and it broke everything and even though I undid it nothing still works so what the heck am I supposed to do about it oh I’m losing my mind again this will take hours if not days….oh, calm down), it’s worth the time I’ve spend doing them. No, nothing fancy – just drag and drop the needed folders and let my 8 TB drive crank away for a while.
And there were times when my customers would mess up their Optio files and call me in a panic – “DO YOU HAVE A COPY OF MY FILES?????”. I’d smile and say “yes, I do” (I did all their development in my environment and then ship them the files that carried out their modifications / new development so I ALWAYS had their backups). Even when their server crapped out and they found out that their backup tapes were blank.
So, how often do YOU do backups?
