Crisis Not Gone to Waste: Democrat Makes Case for Nationalization of Factories and Industries

Today Bill de Blasio, New York City Mayor, former Democrat presidential candidate said he believes the Wuhan coronavirus is a prime example of why it’s important for the federal government to nationalize “crucial factories and industries.”

Just nationalize it… the government has your best interest at heart… right?

Wait, what? We just spent decades getting rid of all of our manufacturing, offshoring it. What is left to nationalize… insurance, healthcare and real estate? Well, according to de Blasio people can get the test for the virus. That’s a good thing right? The testing is being done on a “priority structure” due to the finite number of tests that are available. That’s a judicious use of available resources, right?

De Blasio told MSNBC’s Joy Reid, “… Here’s the reality. This is a war-like situation. We’re in a wartime scenario with a Mar-a-Lago attitude being used by the federal government. It’s so laid back, and I don’t understand it… By the way, testing. How about ventilators? Where is the federal government making sure our hospitals have the ventilators we’re going to need? Where is the federal government when it comes to surgical masks, getting them distributed? This is a case for a nationalization of crucial factories and industries – literally a nationalization – that could produce the medical supplies to prepare this country for what we need.”

Get the prison population to produce it… the cost will be lower…

The state of New York found a way to produce hand sanitizer. They are going to force people in prison to make it. We’ll bypass the slave labor discussion. Do you want to live where they put people in prison then make them work making the products the rest of us need? De Blasio said that doesn’t go far enough.

De Blasio explains, “… The point I’m saying is the federal government should recognize this is a crucial part of stopping this. There should be a national approach to ensuring every factory that can make hand sanitizer should be on 24/7 shifts and the distribution should go to the places that need it most… We’re not into the discussion because we can’t even get the testing.”

Sure Bill, let’s nationalize business because we want more and cheaper hand sanitizer. I think not. But that’s today’s Democrat leadership.

Nationalizing “crucial factories and industries” is a terrible, terrible idea. Ask yourself, who determines what’s “crucial” and what’s not? Is the government literally going to come in and tell business owners to hand over their keys? Are we going to suspend the constitution? That’s required so the government can just take what it wants. Is “takings” just gone because we got short of hand sanitizer?

What is America? The dream of freedom to succeed or fail on your own ability.

Once this kind of precedent exists America is gone. Owning a business is done and over. Taking part in the American dream will be a thing of the past. Think about it, the government could simply come in and take your hard work without even a thank you. And it is all for the greater good, all in the name of “need” you understand? Heck labor gets short in prison just go round up some more people and put them in prison. That’s what they do in China. No, I don’t understand, that’s not how we do things in America, is it?

What’s alarming is the Democrats constantly come up these suggestions. Their party can’t get the Iowa Caucuses accurate or completed in a timely manner. Yet we trust the federal government their leadership. Why do we do that?
