I vote on the way to work and so do a lot of other folks. At least that’s how it looked at my polling place this morning. There were long lines to get in when the polls opened at 7 am.
It takes about five seconds to mark your paper ballot and less than a minute to walk over and feed it into the machine. But getting the ballot took a lot longer. It gave me time to look and listen.
I saw plenty of Democrat ballots. A lot of them. I also noticed quite a few undeclared voters choosing to vote on the Democrat primary ballot. You can do that in New Hampshire. And while it is not representative of everywhere in the state, and certainly not indicative of how the day will go from there, interest in the Democrat primary appeared high to me.
There were a lot of Republican ballots, but more Democrat ballots, at least for the 20 minutes or so that I was waiting and watching.
Perhaps Democrat State Party Chairman Ray Buckley was underselling the issue when he said they did not expect blockbuster turnout. Or, what I saw were the truly interested and activated voters getting the task out of the way.
