Shades of Rush Limbaugh, all over again. Years ago, he tried to have his follows work a miracle for Hillary Clinton against Barack Obama in the primaries: Republicans to vote for her, where possible, in the Democrat primaries. Why do I bring this up?
Hugh Hewitt, a Trump supporter, has just announced that he will be crossing over to vote for Bernie Sanders (reformatted, emphasis mine):
Hugh Hewitt, one of the most popular conservative radio hosts in the country, shockingly announced Sunday that he will vote for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the Virginia Democratic primary. The shock comes, of course, because Hewitt supports President Donald Trump.
Hewitt explained on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he is voting for Sanders because he believes the socialist Democrat is an “authentic socialist. I’m voting for Bernie Sanders. And I think a lot of people will because he’s authentic,” he explained. “I want a clear choice between the authentic, traditional socialist and all the people who just pretend to be.”
It’s a pretty safe bet that Trump will win the Republican primary. It would ALSO be clear that a complete chasm will be there between Bernie and Trump with respect to The Proper Role of Government. Bernie, to no surprise, want Government in charge of everything in your life regardless of the cost (even if it literally FURTHER bankrupts the country). While Trump is trying to build up the military, he is doing what he can to get Government out of our way, both as individuals and businesses, so that we can seek our own Utopias.
I’m unenrolled in any Party – I could play along in this, couldn’t I? After all, as an Independent, I get all of Bernie’s email missives so I know what he stands for and how he sees the Presidency (akin to Putin, right now, so he wants that Power). Bernie wants that Revolution and it’s more than just a political revolution but heading back towards 1917. That Moscow Honeymooner would like nothing better than to replicate the Soviet model than stick with our American Founders.
All Trump would have to do, at least still in this spot of history, is to appeal to those of us that still revere the Constitution AS IS, our history, our political philosophy, our Freedoms, and the economy based on Capitalism (where WE choose what’s in the marketplace instead of Bernie’s Government deciding). Many differences and most of them VERY stark.
I’m going to have to give this much thought – making sure that the best (or is that the worst?) Socialist wins.
In years going forward, however, I’m not sure this can or should be used again. Teachers are flocking to support Bernie – and who teaches our kids? It’s like both what Lenin the Goebbel’s said: once they have your children, you no longer matter. Polls are already showing that the younger set prefers, by large margins, socialism over capitalism, socialism over freedom.
