The Associated Press has reports coming out about slaughter near the Texas-Mexican border. It says Mexican security forces killed seven more members of a cartel assault force. Apparently the assault force rolled into a town near the Texas border.
There it staged an hour-long attack. The reporting is Mexican officials say the death toll is up to at least 21.
The Coahuila state government said lawmen were still chasing parts of the force. The assault team arrived in a convoy of trucks. It attacked the city hall of Villa Union, its apparent target, on Saturday. No reason has yet been given. Gov. Riquelme said at least 14 people died Saturday afternoon. Four of them were police officers. He also said then that several municipal workers were missing. It is not clear what their location is currently.
A new statement did not give a new death total. It said Sunday seven additional attackers were killed. This is in addition to 10 who reportedly died Saturday. The governor said the armed group stormed the town of 3,000 residents in a convoy of trucks. It was attacking local government offices. This was prompting state and federal forces to intervene.
Bullet riddled trucks left abandoned in the streets were marked C.D.N. Those are the Spanish initials of the Cartel of the Northeast gang. The town of Villa Union is about 35 miles south-southwest of Eagle Pass, Texas. It is 12 miles from the town of Allende. Allende is the site of a 2011 massacre involving the Zetas cartel in which officials say 70 died.
Government in control
Videos of the shootout are available on social media. They show burned-out vehicles and the facade of Villa Union’s city hall riddled with bullets. Rapid gunfire could be heard in videos along with frantic people telling friends to stay indoors. The governor said security forces would remain in the town for several days to restore a sense of calm.
Mexico’s murder rate has increased to historically high levels. It is by 2% in the first 10 months of the presidency of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Mexican federal officials said recently that there have been 29,414 homicides so far in 2019. That is an increase of 545 as compared to 28,869 in the same period of 2018. Happy Thanksgiving. Trump is right to declare the cartels as terrorist organizations.
We live in the real world not some make-believe socialist utopia
Why are it Beto and his gun confiscating cronies are not talking about this? We are we not hearing about border security considerations… why? Why are we not hearing about the need for self-defense? You’d think everything is just going to be all peaches and cream listening to the gun control advocates. Our next-door neighbors cannot keep their government officials safe.
And we have no reason for a border wall? A Mexican cartel kills the opposition, Mexican government officials and police. When was the last slaughter of a group of US citizens near the Mexican border? We need to strengthen the second amendment, expand the border wall and strengthen immigration enforcement. Actions speak louder than words.
