The EPA has recognized New Hampshire for its significant strides in reducing pollutants from coal-fired power. But the crazy climate alarmists can’t abide cheap, abundant energy. So, they do dumb things. The most recent one required first responders to deploy police cars, boats, and a helicopter.
State and local police have been taking protesters into custody one by one. First responders have launched rescue boats in the river as a precaution if anyone falls. The state police helicopter hovered over the scene throughout the day. Authorities arrested 12 people on misdemeanor charges.
The group 350 New Hampshire Action says it is part of a larger movement that has been attempting to block this particular train across several states.
That’s quite the carbon footprint, but this isn’t their first idiot rodeo. Sixty-seven protesters connected to 350 NH action were arrested for breaking into Merrimack Station to steal coal in September. Dressed in Tyvek bodysuits.
Tyvek is (as are most of these suites) a chemically spun plastic fabric. Manufactured, tested, packaged, transported, delivered, worn, then disposed (along with some coal dust, I’d imagine). Each of those steps has a carbon footprint.
And Tyvek is made by Dow Chemical. Use your iPhone to call someone and ask if that was the environmentally sound choice?
This environmental group is costing taxpayers a lot of money and diverting public safety resources to address their nonsense. They are also, by their own rules, dirtying up the planet in the process. As I noted above, NH’s air quality has seen massive improvements none of them connected to stealing coal or blocking trains.
New Hampshire’s air-quality now meets national standards thanks to efforts by Merrimack Station to reduce SO2 emissions. A 98% reduction. To produce affordable electricity to charge electric cars and iPhones.
I have yet to find the time to run down who funds the 350 NH A**holes, but I’ll bet it’s out of state money.
