This is a tale of twos. House Democrats settled on two, I say, Two! Articles of Impeachment (CNN Reporter Foghorn Leghorn). We’ve also got two kinds of Democrats considering the two sides on the two articles of impeachment.
The charges are (in a nuthouse shell) abuse of power (winning the election) and obstruction of Congress (separation of powers). Abuse of power and obstruction in the congressional investigation into Ukraine, if we want to get technical.
These are predictable charges because from where I’m sitting, Democrats in the Obama intelligence community abused their power to try and overturn an election (that one didn’t work), so Congress is abusing its power to fabricate charges of impeachment (to overturn an election – and prevent re-election).
Add to that congress using impeachment to obstruct President Trump and (indirectly) Ukraine from investigating the Obama era corruption, abuse, money laundering, and their impressive kick-back scheme.
Two elections, two cases of abuse on the Left (two countries); to hide multiple offenses by Democrats and the previous administration.
Projection.
The House will vote on the two articles but there is another problem. Blue Dogs in Red State Dog Houses. Democrats who won seats from Republicans in pro-Trump districts in the 2018 mid-term elections are not all-in.
A group of about 10 Democratic members of Congress, including New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer, Oregon Rep. Kurt Schrader, New York Rep. Anthony Brindisi, and Utah Rep. Ben McAdams, are all reportedly open to a censure resolution of Trump instead of moving forward with impeachment, according to Politico.
Ace notes their doom either way; if they vote yes, Republicans and Trump Independents swarm to remove them. If they vote no on impeachment, the tin-foil-hat brigade won’t vote for them out of spite.
It must be a sacrifice Pelosi and Company are willing to make. Democrats didn’t go through all this play practice and political performance art to settle for censure. But this also a play of two houses. If the articles pass, they move to the Senate, where Democrats will put them, not the President, on trial.
The already declining fortunes of deranged leftists obsessed with overturning one election to prevent Trump winning a second one will have their day in court.
I don’t expect them to fare well.
