Attention Catholics: This Weekend’s “Anti-Poverty” Collection Funds Marxism

It’s that time of year again… time for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops to launch their annual Adopt-a-Marxist program, more commonly known as the “Catholic Campaign for Human Development” (CCHD).  If you donate to the CCHD collection this weekend, you will be supporting radical Marxist organizations throughout the US.

Please spread the word to other Catholics.

The special collection for CCHD takes place every year shortly before Thanksgiving.  CCHD’s mission is ostensibly aimed at alleviating poverty, but in reality, the organization was founded decades ago in connection with Saul Alinsky’s Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF). CCHD is a radical leftist political organization – not a charitable one.  In fact, they funded Barack Obama’s early political organizing activities through a group called the Gamaliel Foundation.

The vast majority of CCHD funding goes to radical leftist organizations, including many that are aligned with the network of Alinskyite organizations that grew out of the IAF in the 1960s and ’70s.  Over a decade ago, CCHD gave $7.3 million to ACORN, before that organization was disbanded amid various scandals including embezzlement, voter fraud, and abetting sex-traffickers.

CCHD funds have been used routinely for purposes that conflict sharply with what most Catholics believe. CCHD funds are supporting organizations throughout the United States that are closely aligned with pro-abortion groups and which oppose freedom of conscience and religious liberty.

Whenever they get caught, CCHD puts on a show of “reforming”.  Stephanie Block explained in a 2015 article:

Several times, during its 45 year tenure, scandal has rocked the CCHD and forced “reform.”  However, these “reform” efforts have amounted to little more than defunding a few particularly “hot” grantees, such as ACORN which, after the 2008 presidential election, made headlines for embezzlement and voter fraud.

On the contrary, CCHD continues to fund organizations whose mission is to advocate for progressive purposes – social and political.  A sizeable percentage (over half, in the 2014-2015 grant period)(19) of its grants go to affiliates of Alinskyian organizing networks such as Gamaliel, the Industrial Areas Foundations, National People’s Action, PICO, and DART.

The fact that CCHD continues to collect donations from unwitting Catholics is tantamount to fraud.

While many Catholic parishes are no longer participating in the CCHD collection, the vast majority of them still do.  We urge you to share this information with anyone you know who may be attending a Catholic Mass this weekend and to call your local parish to let them know your concerns about CCHD.
